Has anyone over-come this issue?
My cat Rigsy has always has this problem, mostly kneading, but she's always done it on one specific teddy so that's hers, and that's fine. Skye on the other hand, prefers to do it on my, especially if I'm wearing something soft, like a thick jumper or dressing gown. She was bad with it when I fish got her (June last year) but once she started going out, she didn't do it as much. Recently, she's started up again, I think because the weathers been rubbish for this past week and she hasn't been out as much.
I need to do something about it though, its getting weird and obsessive! She sleeps on top of me at night, about 3 inches from my face, and if I move, she wakes up and starts again, kneading and kneading from my feet to my face, where she likes to suck the bedding and my pyjamas if she gets the chance. I'm waking up with wet patches on me and the bed!
Also she does it as I'm watching TV, I suppose I'm sort of 'squishy' myself, and she'll do all over me, then fall asleep, still trying to suck a bit of my clothing.
I had advice on another forum when I first got her, but nothing seemed to work then, and I'm just wondering if anyone on this forum has worked it out. I know she was away from her mother very young, but I can't go back and change that!

Ha my two boys do the exact thing. Morandi will only do it on one of my teddies that is on my bed and will only do it when I am beside him. Charlie does it on my left shoulder and only my left shoulder. If my hair is down (rarely) he will give me a nice head massage. When he was younger he would do it with my mam too, he have the same curly hair but now it's just me.
I heard before that it resembles what kittens would do on their mum's tummy to stimulate milk production and can happen if they are taken away too early. I have no idea what age my lads were, neither did the owner but they were pretty independent.

Frankie kneads my dressing gown and purrs when he's on it. I think it brings him comfort - he never grew up with his mum (as far as we know) so it may just be he's missed out on such comforts. SarahHound about the mum thing with Skye, I think Frankie does it for that reason so maybe Skye.

Both Roman & Osiris are great kneaders, luckily rarely on us. In Osiris's case I'm really gratedul as he really uses his claws & they're not small!! Roman will also dribble on occasions as he does when he's a good fussing mood, he doesn't need to suck anything to make it wet!!! Like the others I understand it to be a comfort thing often related to stimulating mother to produce milk but also as it leaves their scent on things. www.yourcat.co.uk/Practical-Cat-Tips/why-does-my-cat-paddle-my-lap.htmlHowever as to overcoming I've not heard of anyway to do it, but others may have. I can understand why you need to try & solve it as one of our cats, Penny, likes to come & sit on me when she gets on the bed, all 4Kg of her! Luckily she rarely gets on me when I'm asleep but any sign of being awake & that's classed as an invitation.

I'll keep trying with her. I love her to bits, but its quite scary if I wake up in the middle of the night and theres a face 3 inches from mine!!!

Charlie tends to share the bed with me but I have to draw the line when he takes out his claws. He's a pillow hog too!

I've noticed that no only do Caesar and Spartacus do this but so does Mrs.Woman when they are nursing, the kneading bit not sucking. She usually ends up getting one of the boys by accident with her claws, she also does it when you give her lots of attention.

Welcome to the forum winky4611, I hope someone can help you. I'm Toni with 4 rescue cats aged 4-14 but I've never had a kitten so can't advise. Ours knead but don't suckle so its not really been a problem.

Most of my 7 cats knead - mostly on cushions. I've never seen Toffee do it - he's a big toughie and wouldn't be seen doing that! Kai Ruki does it the most. I love seeing a cat kneading, it's sweet.

www.moggies.co.uk/behaviour.htmlLooks like an earlier post was right about sucking behaviour. Liked the bit were it says a cat will pad when it's happy and contented too. Iinteresting about flemhening or however it's spelled. This is the strange lip curl thing in reaction to something puddy has smelled. Georgia does this a lot and it always looks funny.

All 3 of mine do this, but mostly just Poppy that kneads on me, tummy and left breast!! Ouch! She also dribbles.
Charlie jumps on me in the night as well, he is 6kg.
Wordy sits on my pillow and does face pats, and back combs my hair for me.
Maybe put an old dressing gown next to you so they can knead that instead.
