Hi candy Last year we fostered an assistance puppy in training, a Flat Coated Retriever called Skye. She had some ear problems and whilst she was with us she had to have her ears flushed at the vets. She went in in the morning (having had no breakfast), they sedated her, sorted her ears out, and then once recovered she came back home. She was grand not a bother on her. So I'm sure Candy will be fine

Why is Candy needing this done? One of my late dogs,a F.C.R. had awful ear problems, and vet thought she would need an opp to open up the ear canal.Hers were flushed out,we were given stuff to to clean them out regularly, and ear drops. With persistence we thankfully got on top of the problem,so no opp needed. What had happened was previous owners had squirted her ears with flea stuff whenever they saw her scratching, and she had a deep seated ear infection that kept re occurring, very painful for the poor dog. Try not to worry,Candy is only having pre med prob to calm her but not knock her out,as dogs don't like stuff being poured into their ears. When is she having the procedure? let us know how she gets on.

How very strange! but maybe not so strange as they are beggars for finding water, and just love to swim.I can't honestly remember for sure,as she died 10 yrs ago aged 13yrs with cancer of the liver. The washing out with the bottles of solution took quite a while but we got there in the end.Candys doesn't sound quite as big a problem(I hope I am right)so fingers crossed once will be enough, and kept under control with an ear wash.We had a border collie as well at the time, and now have a sheltie collie cross, but still adore the f.c.r. and go all soppy when I meet one, which isn't very often.Good luck, they really are a joy.

candy, Skye loved to swim too! It is very interesting that they were all Flat Coats. Thanks! And Good luck to Candy at the vets. P.S. This is a picture of Skye. (Hope you don't mind me adding it on this thread!)

I remember you talking about your flattie on old fourm... ... talking of going all soppy... we was at a little village fair when a lady come runing up to candy and me shouting and clapping... she spoke in broken english...............;;;;. sayin "my dog .. my dog" then she called out a mans name he come running over see candy and dropped to his knees,,, the pair were in tears... turns out they had two flatties at home and hadnt seen them for 3 weeks so asked for big cuddles with candy to keep them going..... .... bless them.. they were so lovely.... lovely photo anna...love seeing photos... thanks for calming me down guys...i let you know how she gets on...

Hi candy, I am sure she will be fine. I am also sure that more dogs that just Candy have had this done and been fine. Don't get too stressed Plus, you have got some good responses, however, maybe post this sort of thing in the Dog Problems Forum section not the Help Thread. The Help Thread is for help about technical difficulties in this forum...
