Hi, Bindi (Cockapoo)is a mere 11 weeks old now and fully vaccinated. Last week we introduced her to the mother in law's Cocker Spaniel Lacy who is 10 months old as she wouldn't be a risk as I know she is upto date with jabs. This did not go as planned, Bindi was a devil and just kept jumping up to Lacy's face and nipping her ears+leg fur. Lacy was horrified and glad to leave.
Yesterday Lacy came over again and it was the opposite. At first they played, a little rough but nothing to worry about, until hubby accidentally stepped back and stood on poor Bindi's paw who screamed and had a limp for a bit feeling sorry for herself. My daughter (12yrs) was in shock sobbing at what her dad had done but it was an accident. After checking that Bindi was ok, the ate her tea and walked fine we let the dogs together again, this time Bindi was more that a bit submissive, she was petrified of Lacy now. Lacy took advantage of this and bullied her a little. At this point I a reluctant to step in as I want Bindi to socialise and learn manners. We did feel the need to separate them in the end as Lacy was just getting too hyper and Bindi scared stiff. (not to mention the daughters distress)
Anyway, Bindi appeared off colour and exhausted right up to when Lacy left, after which she was perfectly happy and herself. I realise Bindi will have read my daughters fear and that may have added to it but what could I do?
What should I do next time? I have to get them to be friends for the family's sake but mostly for their own as they are both wonderful dogs that I know can be friends and Bindi will be bigger soon, equal to Lacy's size at least. Lacy has been spayed in case that is a point.
Help and advice please.. Sorry for the essay.

Don't apologize for essays, you have a question to ask, karin You can't help your daughter's fear and anxiety, because a 12yr old girl is lightly to feel that way towards her tiny, innocent little puppy. Maybe keep them apart for a while, and then make another steady, gradual introduction between them. If you don't give them time again to adjust to each other, it will do nobody good.

Rather than introducing them indoors (which I assume is what happened both times) try taking them out on short walks togther as often as possible. That way, they will get used to each other, but the walk will be the main focus on attention. Whenever we have foster dogs, we always take them on walks with the dogs before taking them into the house as it enables them to meet on neutral ground.

It worked!!!, we took the 2 dogs to the field, throw the ball a few times for Lacy who loves that game, after a bit Bindi joined it, they even had a cuddle together. Lacy was able to use up her excitment on the ball so was much calmer and that together with an element of acceptance I think things will be great in the end. I will try to up load a pic.
