I give Jess DentaStix. They don't do Jess any harm and don't make her put on weight - then again she gets walked twice every day and goes to the park on weekends... I don't clean her teeth with toothpaste, so it must be the DentaStix doing it. Earl gets three walks per day and an extra long one on the weekends, plus the field. He, however, did put on weight when fed DentaStix. I give Earl a whole raw carrot every day as a teeth cleaner and it works like a charm - plus being ever so healthy Sounds good BT! I also take Jess to a field after school quite a lot I guess it affects different dogs in different ways? Jess has raw carrot sometimes too, maybe I could think about switching her too that, it would take her longer to eat and we always have plenty!

Oh definately CurlyCub. Carrots are unbelievably healthier than DentaStix, and I am sorry because you are currently giving Jess DentaStix.

I occasionally give Dentastix, I don't clean Jaspers teeth apart from using tooth wipes and his teeth have a lot of staining. He came like that, they've always been gross lol On the visit to our last vet they told me it wasn't plaque so it's not that much of an issue. He's just gone 7 so I don't intend on putting him under anaesthetic unless its absolutely necessary, so for now, his mankey teeth stay Jasper has a stag bar, he occasionally chews it but the outsides are that tough that he has lost interest as he can't get down to the marrow inside. So he favours his rawhide chews (not brilliant I know). He's not a massive chewer though so I don't mind giving him a big rawhide now and again (plus, it keeps him off my back lol)

I'm a bad guy too, I also give Dotty a dentastix. She usually gets one per day. She has no time for rawhide chews, treats them like toys and flings them around, and she certainly has no liking for carrots, frozen or not. She has a little staining on her back left tooth, but actually it has lessened a lot recently which I put down to me being religious with her plaque off and her also having a daily dentastix. When I was researching plaque off the other day I learned that it changes the enzymes of the blood but they still need something hard to remove the plaque. I usually find that she takes longer on a dentastix if the packet has been left open so I deliberately leave it open to the air once its been opened, but I will try freezing in future which I hadn't thought of thanks SarahHound. She only ever gets it about an hour or so after exercise. If she isn't hungry, even if its a treat, she simply won't eat it. She also has a stag bar which lies about the kitchen but only shows interest in it about once a month. So I don't mind giving dentastix daily as she is a lean mean herding machine and from what I can see her dental routine is improving the condition of her teeth so happy days

Yes I noticed if they had been left 'out' they go harder, but freezing works well too
