Carlotta has quite bad teeth and recently got one removed as the gum was infected. I'm scared to use anything like cat toothpaste though as she's sick enough as it is. She also seemingly was hardly handled till I adopted her last summer and will hardly tolerate being held (although we're working on it) never mind having her teeth brushed. Any ideas?
I have no idea what Mieze's teeth are like, she has stronger lips than I have fingers and I can't get her mouth open to investigate haha!
Also of the cat loses all it's teeth (it looks likely that Carlotta one day will), what do you feed them? Mash? I've never had to deal with a toothless pet before but it is looking quite inevitable. The vet didn't say anything about her other teeth but they are all dark yellowy brown with darker brown dots/lines through. My cats back home have fairly white teeth so I'd assume that Carlotta's are awful.

If there is a very bad build up of plaque the teeth will really need a proper clean by the vet first, then use the Logic Gel regularly afterwards.

Thanks migsy I'll ask the vets next time, I'd have thought they'd have said something when she got her tooth out recently though. They clearly didn't bother giving a quick clean haha! Need to find a good vets soon.

Ooh that was a bit mean, ours would do that as a matter of course. It would have saved your cat having to have another dose of anaesthetic too smilesbetter, and cheaper...Skips treatment was the other way round,he went in for his teeth cleaning, and vet found some needed removing.Result was lovely gleaming teeth though.

There are all sorts of dental pastes available. Logic is good and plaque off is meant to be very good- especially if your cat will not tolerate brushing as I think you add it to water or food. I use Virbac enzymatic paste cos the cats love the flavour of it. I don't brush but I mix it up with their biscuits so it works around the mouth that way. I should brush really but I think it would be a bit of a job as Simmi is a bit feisty sometimes!
Smilesbetter...if you do feel she is well enough to use a toothpaste mix it in with food as I do. It's better than nothing! Also if a pet loses all it's teeth normal wet food is fine, maybe mushed a bit if it doesn't already come in little bite size bits.. The gums harden and you'd be amazed how little it bothers them. We had a 19 yr old toothless cat as a client at our vets and she ate biscuits!
You are not overzealous to brush a cats teeth or a dogs....it is called being a good owner! Dentals under aneasthetic are pricey so if you can avoid it by brushing why not?! Also a dental for a cat is a MUCH bigger job than a dog as their teeth are smaller and jaws are more delicate so the vets has to use enough force to extract a tooth BUt be gentle enough not to break the jaw! It is not a job Vets or us Nurses like! Luckily dogs are easier to work on as a rule.

Yeah I woulda thought they'd do a clean at the same time. When I did work exp at a vets in Scotland that's what they did! Haha those dental toys look great, will definitely get the cats one if I can find a stockist here, thanks! And cheers vonnie I'll look into the paste. She hasn't been sick for a week now except bile so fingers crossed that this food combo is working. I don't think she's ever eaten dry biscuits for long, I've never seen a cat vomit so much as when she's on dry or part dry, and she doesn't stick water at all really so I worry she'd become very dehydrated very fast. Can tell it's had an effect, Mieze is the same age and has much nicer teeth.
