Right so Cooper has Pyoderma of the nub, his tail. Does anyone have any experience with this? If you don't know what it is, Pyoderma is a bacterial infection of the skin usually involving the epidermis and portions of the hair follicle near the surface of the skin. Cooper has extra skin around the tail area and instead of a tail he then has hair coming out of that nub of skin. I have to keep it clean or the extra skin collects 'stuff'. Anyhoo, I clean it everyday but as it's a place that gets warm and sweaty it can breed bacterial, which it now has.
So I'm cleaning it every day and also applying steroid cream. But I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with treating it long term? I have read that cleaning it with salt water or saline solution is a good plan and then applying a zinc based cream to stop the bacteria forming (like preventing nappy rash) so Sudacrem comes to mind. But not sure how often I should do this? Any ideas? I will of course wait till completely healed before doing this and also we will be going back to the vets so I will ask her but would like to know your views. Thanks for reading. Cooper is a little brighter today but still not a happy bunny. Here's a photo (hopefully) of my smoochie Boy Cooper feeling a little sorry for himself getting snuggly under a cushion.x.

Poor Cooper! I've never heard of that condition, bless him. I can't think of anything other than what you've mentioned I'm afraid. But, Cooper looks very adorable in that photo

Hey guys just thought I would give an update. We have been on our summer holidays so I've been keeping Coopers nub clean while away. It's a lot better and his back to his happy self but it's still not healed 100%. I plan to go back to the vets but I want to wait till I can see our usual friendly knows Cooper well vet so I will call on Monday and see when she's about. I'm happy to wait to see her as it's not swollen anymore and I'm down to cleaning it every other day now. I just need to know what I have to do long term.

Thanks guys orpheous87 & caz2golden I have only seen two options. 1) Keeping the area clean but dry and then applying a zinc based cream to stop bacteria, so Sudacrem comes to mind as it stops nappy rash getting worse and is of course zinc based. 2) Operation to remove the skin folds which will stop the area getting moist and bacteria forming. But it's near/around the spine so has risks!!
