Bramble was neutered yesterday. So she is now to be "rested" for the next week or two. Luckily she is crate trained so doesn't mind too much about being put in there. I can't leave her out in the house free because she would go crazy! And she's not supposed to do that at the moment She has had her pain killers which I think has lulled her into a false sense of "I'm OK now" whereas actually she needs to take it easy! I have been doing short leash walks around the garden for toileting. I also pet her and give her attention, other than that she is crated. She was still sleepy when she came home yesterday so it wasn't a problem but today she is bouncy and bored. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what to do with her to keep her occupied??? She had a stuffed kong this morning but has chewed it up into pieces so that's no good anymore!! Thanks in advance

some mental games would be good, stuff like hiding treats under cups for her to find and things along that line, other than that i dont have any ideas as barley was as good as gold when he was neutered no need to keep him clam as he was clam enough as he was

I was lucky my labs are the laziest dogs going and if I'm sitting up in my room with the tv on they lie on the bed and go to sleep, since its a low down bed I spent as long as I could in my room and they spent ages sleeping and just chewing toys or cuddling up.
Games to try stimulate her head and make her think are the best, hiding treats under cups like puppypal said or if you have other games like that would be good, might be the time to try training longer/stronger stays? Wee tricks to make her think?
I bought a slider puzzle a while back from a Facebook page which is amazing I can give u the link but will take a few days to come but not the cheapest but way better quality than the ones I saw on amazon and in pets at home

Oh I'm dreading going through this with Katy, I can see myself putting it off for another year. She'd go bonkers not being able to do anything, and she hates a crate.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Luckily today I managed to find Amber's extreme kong that was lost for ages, so I gave her a stuffed kong earlier which she enjoyed. As it is lovely weather we sat outside in the garden for a little while too. I am going to get her to work for all her meals, doing some sort of brain game. We can also do some scent work with treats in the long grass!! We certainly need to brush up on our stay training so this is a good opportunity I may also consider buying her one of them interactive puzzles.

If you still have your GREEN feeder, you could scatter a few treats over that, and Bramble could gently try to eat them out. You can buy special manufactured interactive mental puzzles/games but they cost money, and unlike a homemade mental game, take more effort to 'get'. Good luck

Hi, You can get her attention by giving her foods and interactive toys. Dogs are really active and alert that you can easily manage her with different techniques. Just be familiar with her interests. Friends, visit my club: www.chatcat.net/?Club=Happy%20Club

Excuse me asking, why did you only foster her for 6 months? Sorry, just a case of curiosity killed the cat & I wouldn't want that to happen

Excuse me asking, why did you only foster her for 6 months? Sorry, just a case of curiosity killed the cat & I wouldn't want that to happen No worries I don't mind you asking at all Our last puppy, Skye, we fostered for a whole year & she became one of the family & it was heartbreaking when she left, particularly for my sister who still misses her an awful lot. (By the way Skye has actually just graduated as a fully trained autism assistance dog )They have just started to do 6 monthly fostering because the dog finds the transitions harder when they have been with the same person for a whole year, plus if they are with two different fosterers they get more different experiences etc, which makes them better assistance dogs in the future. So for Bramble we had her until eight months, she will now finish her puppy stage with her other foster family & then go for advanced training. We had decided (before Amber was pregnant) that we would do the six monthly's from then on, but now Amber's having her puppies we couldn't have kept Bramble anyway because we wouldn't of been able to give her the time she needed. Even though we only had Bramble for six months it was still sad for her to go but she seems to be doing well & will hopefully become an assistance dog and make someone happy. Boy, that turned into a bit of an essay, lol

Ah that's the key. Bramble is an assistance dog in training - I missed that

Are you keeping in touch with the new foster family? I think it would be nice; we still keep in touch with Earl's breeder, and we send lots of photos and updates.
