Sadly, I had to have Kai Ruki pts yesterday morning. He's reunited with Kiba-Khan who he missed so much. It would have been Kiba-Khan's 16th birthday today. Look after him Kiba-Khan, I miss you both so much. R.I.P.

Oh lotsofcats I'm so sorry to hear this sad news just a month short of his 14th birthday. As you say he will be re-united with Kiba-Khan at Rainbow Bridge, probably celebrating his birth day although not with the treats you would have provided. I know how special all your cats are but your Maine Coons were extra . You will really miss them. I was looking back at your posts & found this one from the Sleeping Pets photo comp in 2013. (click on the view attachment to see the post & its photos & you can enlarge the photo from there) RIP Kai Ruki at Rainbow Bridge now able to run & jump again with his old mates

So sorry to hear this. To lose one pet is heartbreaking but to lose two in such a short space of time must be devastating.
Take care.

I knew Kai Ruki was getting worse and I discussed it with my daughter on Friday and I said we would probably have to take him to the vet Monday (27th Feb) or Friday (3rd March) to be pts because both his legs were getting worse and he could hardly walk. We also noticed one of his front legs was going funny. I had been waiting for some Nutraquin tablets to arrive to see if they would help. On Friday evening he suddenly had a fit, he was throwing himself about and hit the cat food over. I grabbed a blanket and wrapped him in it tightly and after a couple of minutes he was back to normal. I stayed downstairs during the night to keep an eye on him and he didn't move from the cushion he was lying on (on the floor). He didn't get up for any food in the morning and was shaking and I could tell he was in pain. I knew then we wouldn't get our last weekend with him. I looked online and saw that my vets open on a Saturday so I phoned them at 8.30am, but they were only open for booster jabs and minor issues as there was no vet there. So, it was the same emergency vets where I took Kiba-Khan. The staff and the vet are so kind there. The vet said she understood when I said I wanted Kai Ruki pts, as there would be nothing that could be done for him. She left us with him for about 10 minutes to say goodbye before the procedure and he was purring - we hadn't heard him purr for over a week. Of course, when you have a pet pts you start doubting what you did - could I or should I have insisted on more from the vet that first said it was arthritis? I don't think it was arthritis, I think it was something to do with his spine.
My other 4 indoor cats are missing Kai Ruki so much and are hardly eating, it is so sad.

Poor guy , the Fit must have scared him as it did you. There is always going to be doubt in our minds when we have to do the kindest thing for our fur babies. But it sounds like his purring was his way of thanking you , he prob knew where he was . He is now out of pain . Thinking of you Jenny , lots of hugs xx

Oh lotsofcats that must have been awful for you & Kai Ruki. I can understand wanting that extra time with him over the weekend/week) but had to make that hard final decision for your lovely cat. Bar your purse it sounds like the emergency vet was very much the right option as they were so kind. I think Kai Ruki was purring to add his voice to that final farewell and say how much he appreciated everything you had done & were about to do for him. Hard I know but don't dwell on the what ifs, just remember that you gave him a marvellous life and what a great part he played in your & your family's (human & feline) lives. Thinking of you all.

I'm still not used to Kai Ruki not being there, I miss him so much because he was usually so vocal. The other cats (excluding Toffee) all miss him and are still not eating much at all.
