It’s been a while. For those of you who know who I am - a lot has changed for me, and I’m sure the same can be said for you! I now live with my fiancée Kelly, and my brother Jack, and have a very spoilt rescue tabby, Gus, and a puppy on the way. For those who don’t know me - hi, I’m Gaby, and this forum has been a part of my life since I was 16 years old (I’m now 30! Eek!) As we made the decision a few days ago to have a puppy, my first ever dog that will be *mine* (and Kelly’s) and not a partner’s or family pet, I thought I would get back on here and reacquainted with all of the lovely people on here. I’ve lived without dogs for just over 3 years now, and I couldn’t really bring myself to stay involved with anything dog-related as it was too upsetting. I’ve felt like a big part of my personality has been missing, and I cannot wait to start feeling more myself again. I hope you are all well. If you know me, or don’t know me, please say hi. I’d love to catch up, or meet some new friends. Here’s Maggie. Her mum is an Australian Shepherd, and her dad is a cattle dog, husky, collie, labrador and Pomeranian mix! Mum (on the right) and dad:

Hi Gaby, welcome back to the forum. It is very quiet on here nowadays so it's nice to have a member return. OMG, Maggie the puppy is absolutely adorable - how long until you get her? There's nothing like a puppy or kitten to make you feel more like yourself and I'm sure she will be a great help to you. My sister used to have an Australian Shepherd dog and she was gorgeous, very intelligent.
As you can see I have lots of cats and one dog. Sadly, I had to have my Maine Coon cat, Kiba-Khan, pts at the end of November and I miss him so much. It's great to have the support of the other members.
I look forward to hearing more about everything and Maggie and Gus.

Welcome back Pawsforthought. OMG Mable is just gorgeous. I bet you can't wait to get her home. I hope she gets on with Gus. Jasper is still going strong, he's 10 now, but sadly we lost both the cats a few years ago now. Well now your back I hope you stick around, we need all the people we can get these days, as lotsofcats says, it's a bit quiet these days.

lotsofcats, chantel, cazypops, Thanks for the welcome back! I hope I will stick around! We’re currently buying a house, planning a wedding, both work full time (my OH works from home) and have holidays booked, so we’re very busy bunnies! I also volunteer providing horticultural therapy, which I’m very passionate about, and am studying for an RHS level 2 (horticultural qualification) 😂 basically, we’re trying our best to do all the most stressful things at once. It’s fun, but means I often feel a bit burned out. I’m hoping that a bit of forum time can be a bit of me time though ☺️ It’s really nice to hear from you all. I’m sorry to hear of the losses of Kiba-khan and your kitties too cazypops ☹️ I don’t know if any of you remember Finn, the Irish Setter but he also sadly died after an illness. It’s been ages since I’ve had a puppy. She’ll likely be about 5-6 months when we can have her, so we’ll miss the real baby stages, which is a bit sad but unavoidable, but I’m trying to remind myself now of all the things I need! Any suggestions? 😆

So sad that Finn passed suddenly Pawsforthought, it is very hard to accept that your pet is here one minute and gone the next. I'm glad you are brave enough to get another dog, it will definitely help you come to term with your loss. One suggestion for when you get Maggie is to have a large dog crate and get her crate trained - it is very handy. I wouldn't be without one. 5-6 months old is a good age - won't they part with her sooner?

Yes I knew about Finn, I saw it on FB, it was such a shock. {{HUGS}}
As Maggie will be 5-6 months old she should be house trained by then (fingers crossed) but maybe a pack of puppy pads just until she settles.

Hello! Not sure if you remember me but I remember you I'm not on here a huge amount anymore but do dip in and out occasionally. Snap on being 30 now! I still have Alfie, my Cocker Spaniel.... except he's 14 and a half now and has a plethora of health issues but still going bless him!

Hey alfiemummy - yes I do remember you! Aww, Alfie is the same age as my Monty and yeah, health issues aplenty! What issues have you had with Alfie? Monty, bless him, has escaped death twice now (at least!) - he had lymphoma, discovered by me when randomly noticing his glands were massively swollen around his throat - we made the difficult decision to put him through chemo. He had a bad reaction to it as he has MDR1 - common in collies, Aussies etc - and nearly died on the Christmas Eve before last. His medications were adjusted, and he’s now in remission from cancer. He still wasn’t really himself though, and it was once we came back from holiday in Greece (on which I proposed to my fiancée ) and saw that he was struggling to breathe, again, made the decision to give him an operation rather than sedate him for the rest of his life, because it turned out he had a laryngeal prolapse. Collapsed larynx. Once recovered from his op - he was a puppy again! He was bounding about, had a lot more energy, and was back to himself. He hadn’t been himself for a couple of years and we’d put it down to the cancer, but the poor thing was struggling to breathe too. My poor boy. My mum was so relieved though that her decisions, which some family members thought were inhumane, were clearly the right ones because he has his quality of life back and is going strong for now Hey scallywag! I was sure I could rely on you to still be here, and I’m glad you are I’m not really in touch with Avansa - we are perfectly friendly if we do need to contact one another but don’t really talk. I don’t want to speak about someone who isn’t present so I’ll leave it at that I should clarify though that I was not living with Avansa when Finn passed away, though I did go and support the family and say goodbye to Finn myself. I miss him a lot, and even though I was already missing him after moving out, it feels very different knowing his gorgeous little personality is no longer bouncing around in the world I appreciate you all saying I’ve been brave having another dog, but honestly I can’t accept it because I’ve been DESPERATE for a dog, but just knew that where I was living was not suitable. Currently where I live, a lovely townhouse in a quiet part of Brighton, has the tiniest little courtyard that I am loathe to call a garden (though I’ve tried my best!) Its fine for Gus cat, but is not a suitable space for a dog considering my partner would probably rely on secure access to a good outdoor space to let the dog out to toilet while she’s working.
