I was on the original Your Cat forum. I joined it on 10/9/2011 just before the software was updated 3/10/2011. The Your Pet forum was set up as a replacement for the Your Cat, Your Dog (& others) It was however a complete change to the Proboards software & style. I was the first user (as opposed to the admin & a couple of their developer staff) joined on 18/3/2013 & did a little testing for them (my background was IT & had done some user testing on the old YC forum when there were issues) Everyone else (including you spider & Pawsforthought) from the old forum started to join this one on 21/3/2013 from midday, I see scallywag was the next morning . It's interesting looking at the list of members & sorting it by date registered!!! The old YC forum was kept open for viewing only for a short while so that users could download any messages/threads that they wanted to keep.

Hey alfiemummy - yes I do remember you! Aww, Alfie is the same age as my Monty and yeah, health issues aplenty! What issues have you had with Alfie? Monty, bless him, has escaped death twice now (at least!) - he had lymphoma, discovered by me when randomly noticing his glands were massively swollen around his throat - we made the difficult decision to put him through chemo. He had a bad reaction to it as he has MDR1 - common in collies, Aussies etc - and nearly died on the Christmas Eve before last. His medications were adjusted, and he’s now in remission from cancer. He still wasn’t really himself though, and it was once we came back from holiday in Greece (on which I proposed to my fiancée ) and saw that he was struggling to breathe, again, made the decision to give him an operation rather than sedate him for the rest of his life, because it turned out he had a laryngeal prolapse. Collapsed larynx. Once recovered from his op - he was a puppy again! He was bounding about, had a lot more energy, and was back to himself. He hadn’t been himself for a couple of years and we’d put it down to the cancer, but the poor thing was struggling to breathe too. My poor boy. My mum was so relieved though that her decisions, which some family members thought were inhumane, were clearly the right ones because he has his quality of life back and is going strong for now Ahh bless him! He sounds like his health issues have been a little more problematic than Alfies!! So glad he's got his quality of life back now <3 Where to start with Alfie He has arthritis in his elbows, he has kidney disease, mild liver problems, dry eye, high blood pressure, seemingly a constant snuffly nose, he has about half a dozen lumps on his body of various sizes, the biggest is on his waist around the size of a snooker ball. A year or two ago now he was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma in his anal glands, so he's had both of those removed - he didn't get a clear margin so there's a chance it could return (or spread), we opted out of any further treatment for him as he gets really stressed at the vets - thankfully so far we haven't noticed any further issues with this (touch wood) and the vet has been happy with him on physical examination. These days he's very much just an obviously "old dog", he sleeps almost all the time. We also suspect he may have a bit of doggy dementia as he spends a lot of time just... standing and staring at nothing, and is restless in the evenings. I've just gotten him a dog buggy as he struggles to walk very far now too. At the moment we're also having trouble feeding him, though I don't think the kidney friendly diet is helping - he would happily eat if it wasn't for all the supplements and I could feed him all the "bad" foods he loves! He also has growths on his front gums, so he really struggles to actually pick the food up, and has taken to preferring being hand fed, or eating from a plate where he can just lick the food up At his last checkup, we found he'd lost around a kilo in weight - which I suspect is due to the difficulty in getting him to eat well, but the vet did also say he could have a tumour somewhere internally again we've opted out of looking into it further as just doesn't seem worth stressing him unnecessarily, he's definitely approaching his last legs anyway and we want him to be chilled and happy as long as possible. He also toilets in the house often Usually in the night, but sometimes in the day if you're not there to let him out immediately when he suddenly decides he needs to go - we think this may also be dementia related as he will go out about 5 times in 15 minutes, but seems to forget what he went out there for and then come back and do it inside a few minutes later bless him. All of his health issues are currently just being managed via diet or medication (oh so very many medications!!) - as I said we wouldn't opt for any intense treatments for him now, not that there's anything we could do for a lot of his ailments anyway! EDIT: He's also deaf and partially blind I forgot about those.. there may be more I've forgotten haha!

cazypops it all sounds quite a lot when I note them all down, but to be honest he seems happy enough - he's just old so it's not unexpected and he seems to be coping well enough! What's quite funny is he was relatively healthy up until he was about 11 or 12... then all of a sudden he just got steamrollered with a bunch of things one after the other! I swear every time we go to the vets, he comes out with a new health condition They did think recently that he might have a heart murmur - thankfully they've now decided he doesn't! I could do without any extra medication to give him

Glad that you seem to have most of Alfie's problems under control alfiemummy. You have the best attitude, wanting him to be chilled and happy as long as possible. My Kobi's not far behind him, although he's had a little boost of activity lately - I put Johnsons 4 Joints in the cats' water bowls (which Kobi drinks out of) and it looks like this is helping him. I wanted it to help poor Kai Ruki who's got arthritis in one of his back legs.
