Twice I have used Advocate on Bernie and both times he has purposely pee'd and rolled in it forcing me to bath him. Is he doing this to get rid of the advocate? And will it still be effective if I'm having to bath him 5-10 hours after application? Thank god I get my flea treatment free otherwise I'd be annoyed having wasted money. It is not like I can't bath him either. He reeks! Blimmin' pup

I dont know why, but barley always rolls and tries to get it of of himself, he also sulks and will not settle, we have to take him out for a walk as soon as it has been applied to 'distract' him, he will try to roll in dirt and then he gets dirt stuck to the stuff.
Maybe he is trying to cover up the smell of it as it could be too strong a smell for him so he is masking it with his wee.

Better read the instructions with the packet and see what it says as I am sure it would have changed since I last used it.
The last time I used it which was over a year ago it said dont get your dog wet for four days post application. Then again same document also said dont let dog get wet more than once in a month.
Maybe he is trying to get rid of smell, have not heard of dogs doing that before! Mine would want to rub against things though!!

You could ask your vet why and if it is because of what is in the Advocate. I wouldn't think that getting wet after application is a good thing... Maybe it irritates him, or like puppypal says, he doesn't like the smell.

Check the packaging? First few times I had new bones to give my dogs so they were busy distracted and chewing as I put spot on so they didn't notice. Maybe try that?

Never heard of it but it could be. If you think of how strongly it smells to us, then think of how sensitive the dogs sense of smell is. He might just like being covered in pee lol!

Haha charlottte! He never does that though. Only the last two times with the advocate. He's such a clean dog normally and hates getting wet or muddy. I shall check the packaging. Thanks.

Jaspers the same PF. Mud and water are a no go lol! Keep us updated on what you find! It'd be interesting I know why he does it!

caz2golden is correct, the dog should not get wet for a few days after you apply it. Which is the reason I decided not to use it. I would say he either doesn't like the feel of it on his skin or his trying to get rid of the smell. May be a change of product is in order??
