Glad to see that Roman is doing ok. It made me laugh at the image of him trying to get to his Metacam. When I need to give Jasper some, I have to chase him round his Dads chair. I go one way, he goes the other. He gets it in his mouth too, but I don't think he likes it.

Roman had another, expensive, visit to the vet yesterday. At his last review in 2021 we'd planned to do blood tests in 2022 to see how he was doing , in particular his T4 (thyroid). Knowing that my vet was away during the week for 3 weeks (10th-29th) but in on the weekends that was going to have to wait. However I needed to organise some more of 2 of his meds, so I rang up on Monday & ordered them & found that the vet was unexpectedly in this week so booked Roman in for blood tests on Friday (yesterday). After I'd left him there, I thought about it & contacted them again to suggest, subject to vet agreeing, that as he was going to be sedated to extract the blood it might be an idea to have an x-ray to see how his heart was doing. So not only did he have blood test he had the x-ray. I picked his up at 6pm & he was fine although not sure my credit card was!! There was a bit of confusion when I arranged to pick him up as I hadn't had the results so they booked me an appointment with the vet today. It was all good news his glucose was in normal levels (mind you he was also short of food by the time it was taken! His T4 was just over the normal range so he is still hyperthyroid but it looks like the level of medicine is managing it OK, one of the kidney disease levels was elevated but only slightly and the rest were fine. There were a few other s slightly out of range but explained by the ketamine sedation. The best news of all was the x-ray showed no sigh of heart disease or fluid around it, although his heart is still enlarged but then that is to be expected as that is something that doesn't reverse itself. Also his calcium levels are fine despite getting calcium tablets for his thinning bones so that's not causing any heart problems. End result to continue as we are. Just one warning from the vet & that was regarding the issue of Metacam & kidney disease. I've already been reducing it & hope to stop it soon. However I also need to consider quality of life - both his & mine ( I don't think he'll stop trying to jump up on the worktop & having him fall doesn't help my stress levels!) So far he seems OK on his jumps. I no Metacam causes problems then we'll be looking at all the options, including continuing with as low a level of Metacam as possible.

So, it was just your purse that was hurting. At least you know that Roman's health issues are well controlled at the moment. Was he allowed treats for being a good boy?

That's a relieve that all things considered Roman is going good. What would we do without our flexible friend sometimes though.

So, it was just your purse that was hurting. At least you know that Roman's health issues are well controlled at the moment. Was he allowed treats for being a good boy? No treats sadly lotsofcats - they are very rare for him these days other than the couple he gets every morning & night with his tablets. He still gets a little chicken along with his last food of the night when the other 2 also have some - it was always given as a reward for coming in for the night, not that he's allowed out now! Ditto lotsofcats , we are so blessed on here that we can give our pets the help and meds needed, l feel sorry for those people that cant stretch the purse . 😢 Exactly scallywagSo glad Roman’s visit to the vets went well and he is doing ok bless him. I don't have insurance just a bank account, but then I doubt this time would be covered by any insurance as it was really more of a reassurance rather than a necessity!

If Roman is like my cats then chicken is considered the number 1 treat. I just gave them some a few minutes ago when I got up because I can't sleep. They've all gone back to sleep now.

lotsofcats, Roman's number 1 treat is Fresh King Prawns (or at least they may have been frozen before the shop/fishmonger got them but they've been defrosted before I buy them). Even if I defrost frozen ones in plenty of time he's not so keen! The small prawns/shrimps are a passable alternative but his face doesn't light up in the same way Osiris won't touch them at all, his normal treat is ham/chicken/beef/lamb in that order! Lexie's is cat treats anything I eat, in particular anything dairy (porridge, cheese, scrambled egg, yogurt (even a sharp plain one) - actually I can't think of anything dairy she doesn't try to get!) & any of the other 2's food!! In other words anything goes for her over her own food!!!

I've never tried my cats with prawns tonib. They all love chicken, No Drain tinned tuna in sunflower oil, microwaved whitefish, ham, beef, lamb and pork. None of them have anything dairy.

Oh I forgot they all like a share of my fish (batter removed) when I get some from the fish & chip shop. Before Roman had his diabetes diagnosis I used to buy cod & chips for me & a cod for the cats & they shared the fish that evening (hot) & the next day cold (mainly Roman, although Osiris had some - preferred it hot - but Lexie wasn't keen on it cold at all!) Now I go to the chip shop that does "fish fingers" which are small pieces of cod (about a third of a normal size fish) in batter not the breaded sort from the freezer section at the supermarket They all get a share of it hot with maybe a little left over for the next day but Roman doesn't get as much as he used to
