I've been given a link to a facebook group that has concerns over Felix cat food. I don't know whether their link between ill cats & the brand are correct but I thought I'd at least give members the option to see for themselves. It's a private group but they approved my membership fairly quickly so I've been able to read the posts now. I haven't posted on it but I'm a little concerned as Roman is on 4 pouches of AGAIL & 2 Original a day. I haven't noticed any ill effects on him, fingers crossed, but I think I will talk to my vet about it as changing Roman's diet adds another factor into the stabilisation of his insulin levels. I got worried about this also as it’s Bella’s food of choice but I did a quick check and it appears that they have changed the recipe slightly in so much as removed the colourants. Purina have put out a statement saying the foods completely safe and there’s no link between the recipe change & reactions people seem to be reporting , Bella’s been fine with the new recipe, apart from one flavour she’s gone right off of, I did manage to get hold of the old recipe from Zooplus recently though xxx

Most of the fb group who are blaming Felix are saying their cats were ill after the change. I agree I can't see how removing colourants should cause this & like molly9 & lotsofcats I've had no reaction from Roman to the change not even a flavour dislike. I must admit that I can see more of the small white bits which people have commented on in the new style ASGAIL. I'm still not sure, there are certainly some people whose cats seem to have been ill & have improved after stopping giving them Felix & sadly some cats have died but I can't see any scientific link to Felix. Of course there is no scientific link to the food from AVA etc that was recalled other than the increase in the cases of the specific disease (sorry can't remember the name) with a noticeable percentage being fed on the brands from a particular factory but the percentages were enough for the food to recalled. Given the very large number of cats fed on Felix the percentages aren't comparable. I'm still feeding Felix but will be keeping an eye on Roman & monitoring what's happening elsewhere. |
