I think the weather is reflecting our feline household in that it never rains but it pours. Last night Osiris was really weird when he finally came in, he was charging around rather nervously. I wondered if the stranger cat was around but no sign. Osiris couldn't settle, hid behind a chair then went on the back of the sofa at the door end & then changed to the other end. was twitching, scratching, nibbling his tail at the base. When I could stroke him was very cautious around his rear end. He spent his night on the bedroom windowsill but also tried the floor & my bed. this morning he was still agitated & similarly wary but by accident rather than design I briefly felt a lump at the underside of the base of his tail. so while I was the vet hospital with Roman I booked Osiris into the local branch for 16:40. could be interesting as the hospital want me ring at 16:30! Oh well get Osiris ready early & drive to local vets (5 minutes) for 16:30 & ring hospital from the car park! I was so relieved about Roman I forgot to mention Osiris's appointment when they gave me time.

That is a strange symptom that Osiris has - could it be an abscess or an insect bite? Tell Lexie not to get anything wrong with her.

lotsofcats, She's just being clingy today, mind you that could be because she's not getting the dregs of Roman's pouches or the chance to grab some from his bowl with the number of feeds he gets a day!!

Poor Osiris, the nice vet who knows Osiris quite well had a rather unpleasant cure for Osiris (& the vet) as it was either a blocked or infected anal gland. After Osiris struggling & growling when the vet was examining him & I was holding him as still as possible, a pair of gloves for the vet & a sharp pain for Osiris & the job was done, it was surprising how small an amount was on the vets glove! Two injection at the site later (Betamox antibiotic & Dexafort anti-inflammatory steroid) & we were out to pay & go home Seems much calmer & more comfortable, if he doesn't stay improved they we're to go back.

Oh poor Osiris, the indignity of it all. I expect he's feeling relief.

He seems to be lotsofcats Not perfect yet but much improved. By the way you'd be a good vet lotsofcats, as your suggestion of abscess was exactly what the vet first thought as he enquired if Osiris could have been fighting to which I answered yes but a closer inspection revealed the true problem. I'd heard of dogs having this problem (from reading the forum) but not cats! Mind you I wouldn't be surprised that Osiris had aggravated it as he's always washing him self in that area, legs akimbo folded double!
