Has anyone made liver cake for dogs? A friend of mine made it and gave a piece to Earl and he loved it! What do people think, what are the ingredients and it is completely healthy and natural?

Nope, never made it. We will have to try it because I'm sure they would love it!!! All I've ever made for them is tuna and cheese biscuits

I make it all the time, I get other dogs following me at training and when I pop into daycare to get a bit.
Recipe I use, 1lb liver (about 450g) 1lb lb flour (again about 450g, I use spelt £1.99 tesco or £2.69hollant and Barrett) 3 eggs Garlic granuals, maybe about 2teasppons ish Wee bit of oil and milk
Put liver in blender till its liquid, add eggs, garlic, oil and milk Tip into bowl and add flour, mix well, if u leave it too long it will get harder to mix and start to set
Put onto microwaveable plate with a dent in middle so thicker round edge and e microwave for 10 mins, remove and put on wire rack to cool
Slice and airtight container. Cn be frozen
WARNING OPEN ALL WINDOWS AS IT STINKS
Doesn't bother me but everyone else complains, and be prepared to clean up earls drool!

can you cook in oven rather than microwave? With our recipe you can cook in the oven for 2 hours or the microwave for 10 minutes! Will vary with recipes though

Yep, I've made it a few times for my two. It's very popular. The recipe I use is similar to teegiebear's but I use gram flour and fresh garlic.
Caz, I cook mine in the oven. I don't trust the microwave to cook it properly! The recipe I have says to cook it for 20 mins in the oven though, not 2 hours. Saying that, I had to leave it in longer last time I made it as it had a soggy bottom!

Yeh can cook in oven no problem, its just quicker and smells for less time in microwave! If using fresh garlic 2cloves its just me being lazy that uses garlic granuals as I know they're always there in the cupboard and I only need to remember to buy the actual liver.

If your dog isn't used to it and u fed it the entire cake I'd imagine it would upset earls tummy but I use it as training treats. Make a big batch and freeze some, don't give too much the first time u give him it to see how he is and it shuldnt

My mum wanted to know whether liver cake makes dog's poop runny? Could someone answer that?! Our BC Nell could not handle liver - it made her poop VERY runny, to the extent that we took her to the vet, not realizing what the problem was. The vet blamed some liver that Nell had eaten and told us that she had worked at a dog rescue centre in Cyprus and local butchers used to give food to the centre. On one day each week a certain butcher donated liver scraps - and this played havoc with lots of the dogs giving the staff a lot of unpleasant cleaning up to do! Having said that, lots of people feed liver to lots of dogs without problems!!!
