I last used my car on 5th Feb & went to go shopping today & it wouldn't start. Lots of warning lights on. I suspect the battery has drained & its very cold.
As I live on a hill thought I'd be able to bump start it so as I park forwards into the drive I had to back out. No problem I thought as I can release the brakes & roll back. However I found a slight hitch. I couldn't turn the wheels, not sure if its the power steering or the braking system that's not working with the lack of power/ Without being able to turn the car I can't get it turned around to go forwards down the hill to bump start. Luckily I stopped on the drive so no hazard.
My neighbour can assist with starting the battery when he's back in around 1/2 hour from now & then I'll have to give it a good run to ensure it charges enough. Otherwise it'll be calling out Green Flag - I have home start with them. But if the neighbour can get me started then that would probably be quicker than waiting for GF as I would be well down the list of priorities so I'm currently waiting for him.
I feel a right berk as I've seen all the warnings about starting your car in these times of staying at home so the battery isn't drained when you need it!!!
I was going out on Tuesday but landed up being able to get a handyman in to replace my broken (last weekend) bay window curtain rail - I already had a replacement as I knew there were issues (pre pandemic) but hadn't got round to getting it replaced - it's a bay window so the track needs bending by someone who knows what they're doing (the damage caused on the previous rail installation is what caused the problems now)
Then I was planning on going shopping yesterday but when I got up I could water dripping past the kitchen window - the overflow to the header tank in the loft was nicely dripping , the flow eased as I started using water. Then the slower drip was forming a icicle from the pipe - it was that cold! Luckily I was able to get a plumber yesterday afternoon & that is now fixed.
Update:-
My neighbour has provided power to the battery but that didn't make a difference so we're leaving it to charge for 15 minutes or so & if that doesn't solve it Green Flag will be called. If it does then it will be left on charge overnight.
