Hi everyone. I just thought I’d make a thread to talk about the “goos”. They’re both doing good. Skitters alopecia is acting up again so he has a big bald patch on his back again, but that doesn’t bother him much

Late update, but Skitters alopecia is getting way worse. The skin underneath looks fine, but he has huge bald patches on his back now. I’ve been looking for a vet that could possibly look at him but there’s nothing within a 2hr drive and I can’t do that, especially in the winter

Poor Skitter. Do you have anything you can put on his bald patches until the weather improves so you can go to the vet?

Yeah, the nearest vet is 45 minutes away, which is where the cats go, but they won’t take degus.
I don’t have anything to put on it sadly.
Someone who has experience with degus mentioned Skatter could be overgrooming him and if I separate them I could check if it grows back, but I don’t have the ability to separate them long term at the moment.

Could you buy something off eBay? I use an antiseptic spray called Leucillen which is for all skin infections and wounds. It is suitable for all mammals.

It’s their gotcha day today! I brought them home three years ago today. I don’t actually know how old they are, only that they were fully grown when I got them. They’re enjoying some celebratory hazelnuts and sunflower seeds today
