I don't know if any of you remember a while ago I posted about Mickey being very poorly, losing weight etc? Well, he's improved lately and hasn't been sick or pooped indoors for a long time (which is very good ) and has been going outdoors every day, although to be fair it was mid winter when he was ill, so a bit too cold for him perhaps He's still not eating all that much, and we are thinking about POSSIBLY raw feeding him. Here he is enjoying a chicken wing. It made us very happy to see him so enthusiastic about something! www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151617610190199&l=5459528952504430566

He's certainly chewing away on that wing Glad to hear he's doing better despite not eating a lot. I'd always thought that feeding cats (or dogs) chicken wings or any chicken bones was not recommended due to splintering but having seen all the posts on raw feeding for dogs it seems that I got it wrong. I'm assuming that its the cooked bones that are the issue rather than raw. Have I got that right now ?

tonib yeah it's the cooked bones that splinter. Weird because cooked bones are sold everywhere for dogs and people buy them not knowing :S broken04 nope, haven't tried mince, but we've ordered him some Natural Instinct to try, might actually work out not so expensive if he likes it! The main thing we're pleased about is that eating meat with bones is good for his teeth, he's an old boy and his teeth are good for his age and we want to keep them so.

Sausage used to eat raw, straight after his accident , when he refused to eat the prescription food. He was on it for about 9 months with no ill effects. As this was more than 10 years ago I'd say 'go for it', it doesn't do any harm. Jenny, when i read your post I misread it as MICE instead of mince and immediately thought "where do you buy them from then" I think i spend too much time with my cats

Mickey does seem to enjoy it.
Something a behaviourist suggested to us for a cat that tends to predatory style play & that is to wipe a cooked prawn (no shell) on some greseproof paper then turn it over & wrap the prawn in it. Then hang it on string - a combination of hunt/kill & play. Could also be done with chicken.

Glad he is enjoying it, we did try feeding raw and although some of them loved it and the others just threw it round their room like it was a toy I found it gave some of the ones which enjoyed it diarrhoea, I had tried raw chicken and mince lamb. I found the mince was the worst for giving them a runny tummy, maybe it was too rich. It is good for their teeth though if you can get them eating it without any tummy upsets.

I think as it is we are going to give it to him every now and then as a treat. He didn't seem to have an upset tummy on it, he eats it very slowly so maybe that helps. Natural Instinct, who we use for raw feeding our dogs, sell wing tips cheap - £1.50 for 500g so we bought some and shall be giving them to him now and then to help his teeth
