Hello all I'm new here but desperately searching for some advice on my kitten. He is 41/2 months old and had been really lively and playful since we got him, he's well trained and uses his litter tray well, he's been on the same kitten food since we got him but here's my problem , since he had his first injections around 4 weeks ago he's just not been the same cat, he is pooing and weeing all over the house, he is hiding he won't play and he just looks really sad all the time, I've tried changing his toys , refreshing them with cat nip nothing seems to work, he's back at the vets tomorrow for his second injections but I just wondered if anyone had any advice. Many thanks

Tell the vet your kitten's symptoms - perhaps they are a reaction to the first injection. I hope you get some answers from the vet. Let us know how it goes.

As lotsofcats said, it sounds like a reaction to the vaccine and you should definitely tell your vet about it before your kitten gets the second round of vaccinations as if it is a reaction to the vaccine then the second round may make it worse. I know some vaccines (rabies one for example) can make the let a bit drowsy for a while after the vaccination but I would have thought four weeks would be far too long even for that. Let us know how it goes with the vet, good luck and I hope he gets back to normal soon!

Hope all goes well tomorrow for Simba jules1983. As to loading photos you have to use some form of hosting service there are free ones such as photobucket or flickr although if the picture is on facebook then that can be used as well. You just need to post the appropriate link (for bulletin boards if you have a choice - depends on what you are using to host) to the photo. If you need any further help don't hesitate to ask.

Do you have any un-neutered toms around your area that he maybe smells? Is your wee one un-neutered? I know cats tend to do the toilet outside of the tray, especially around doorways when they are trying to mark the area as being "theirs"

I've had youngsters ~ including my tearaway Lily who is 2 now ~ be a bit drowsy the day they have their first injections but they've always been back to normal 24hrs later. I would definitely mention this to your vet tomorrow as Simba may be one of those cats that does have a slight reaction. It's still MUCH better to have him vaccinated though....I've cared for cats in the past that have had preventable terminal illnesses because their previous people didn't bother to vaccinate them and it's heartbreaking to lose them Good luck for tomorrow (((HUGS))) Let us know how the wee man gets on

Hi all thanks for your comments, just back from the vet she couldn't see anything wrong with him all his temp, weight etc are all normal so we decided to go ahead with his next injection, so I'm at a loss really she did recommend getting another litter tray for him so will try that and hopefully this will stop him messing in the house. He's currently fast asleep, maybe this is just his personality , who knows

We went ahead with the vaccine as the risks are to great for me without it. Thanks for your advice

He'll probably be as right as rain and tearing around like a mischievous wee hooligan tomorrow (or is now!) Lily is always a touch quiet for a few hours after her injection but is two & half years old now and as fit as a flea and hasn't had any adverse reactions. She's due her booster in March so it'll be interesting to see if it makes her drowsy once again or whether, like my other girl of similar age, Nina, she just sails through it

Hope Simba's fine & the 2nd litter tray helps jules1983. If not it might be worth trying a different style of litter in one tray & see if that helps. They definitely have their preferences. One that seems to work for a number of cats that have had problems is Pets at Home Ultra Performance clumping litter. A friend told me that she'd recommended to someone she knew who was having problems & it did the trick. although all of her stories relate to siamese/oriental cats. I tried it with one of ours (ordinary moggie) who was having occasional (deliberate) accidents & we've had no more (fingers crossed)

Cats are very sensitive. She might have got scared after the first injection she took from the vet. Give your cat some time with what she loves. Spend a playful time, cuddle it and talk to her. She will forget that painful experience and then she will return to her normal personality.
