So I was just awoken (at half six German time) by rosa whining at the door, something she NEVER does. I was away to take her out when I noticed she had chewed open the dry bio chilli fertiliser I had in my gardening box. I don't know what the ingredients are other than crushed horn and hooves. Wish it bloody had the ingredients marked on it!! Anyway so I made my man take her out. He said she was squatting and moving around but if anything came out, he didn't see it, but that she looked relieved after. So she either had a fart or some liquid diarrhoea.
Anyway I wasn't sure whether to induce vomiting, but it seems as though it's already going through her so I don't think it would help at this stage. Her stomach is making some awful noises and shed drained her water bowl while we were asleep.
The vets here are all shut and uncontactable and will remain so for a couple hours but I'll phone as soon as they open. Don't wanna drag her along there just to discover we should have her resting or something.
Anyway she didn't eat much, the tub was chewed open and it was spilled all over the floor. I cleaned it up and the tub was practically full again, she may even only have had a few granules. I worry the cats may have tried it too as Mieze was very interested in it when I first bought it for some reason so I had it hidden in my garden box.
Anyway calling vet soon, just wanted to post!

I would be very cautious and careful of inducing vomiting in a dog (or any animal) at home without a vet doing so.
Hope Rosa feels better soon.

Well despite her rumbling stomach and desperation to get out earlier, she is now completely fine haha! Thank goodness I only buy super organic, natural fertiliser. Hate to think what would have happened if it had been a normal one.
Argh dogs!

Spoke too soon! She just vomited on the floor. Turns out she also nicked a bit of pizza although since the box was totally out of reach, it seems to be partially Mieze the thieves doing. Mieze tends to nick food and drag it onto the floor to eat but never finishes it. Rosa has obviously made the most of the situation and scoffed the remainder. Not that we usually leave food out, yesterday was an exception.
Wish Rosa would realise that her food thievery is what caused her illness, but she was more worried about trying to lick up her vomit (of course not allowed) than anything else. She was most displeased that it got cleaned up!

You're gonna wake up in the morning and she'll have GROWN to the size of a wolfhound after eating fertiliser!!!
Seriously tho'....at least being organic there'll be no nasty chemicals Are you still going to take her to the vet or does she seem a lot better after puking it up?
Dogs, eh? Remind to keep an eye on Holly if (when) I spread some bonemeal or fish, blood & bone (or whatever it's called) on the allotment....I can see her having a field day rolling in it otherwise

I am paranoid about things so I think I would still call the vets. I believe (in UK) they have access to company that has access to ingredient lists of products to check there is nothing toxic in things.
Just cos something is natural or organic, does not mean it is not got something in it that could be toxic! (take grapes, onions, Macadamia Nuts are natural and can be organic but can also be toxic)

Well I contacted the company that make the fertiliser. It's a small company so got straight through to the maker, and he said there's absolutely no grapes in there (which was my worry) and that dogs regularly eat it and suffer no more than bad diarrhoea, so that's put my mind at rest a lot! Rosas doing okay, twice now she's had such bad diarrhoea that it's just been a stream of brown flying out. She's been drinking loads of water and we've been giving her bits of chicken now and then so she doesn't end up starving too, and to put something solid and healthy in her stomach.
Anyway she seems to be doing good now. She's been out for the toilet loads but only "pooped" twice, although the first time began with a fart/splat in the house. Wasn't as bad as it might sound though as it just smelt of the fertiliser, ha. She looked mortified when it happened and my man rushed her out, but she was able to hold in till she got to the garden. She's been begging to play when out in the garden for toilet breaks so she is pretty much her usual self, just with different poop! Getting more tripe tomorrow so she'll like that, I always think of it as chicken soup for dogs haha.
