My first Lily was a tabby and white too She was found in Seahouses in August 2012 with a badly broken front leg (car accident?) which needed major surgery with pins sticking out from shoulder to wrist joint (a proper Bionic Vet job!) When Linda who ran PARRT told me about her I said immediately that I would have her as our house was quiet and calm and as Lily had to be on crate rest for a few months it would be ideal as there was always one of us at home. We had a 36'' crate and set it up for her but when we picked her up from the surgery we soon realised she would need a bigger one as she was huge!!! I had to borrow Linda's 48 inch one from the cat rooms. Anyway Lily made a full recovery after a few months and she was SUCH a loving character to me...but ignored poor Neil After 7 months or so she started to venture outdoors and never left our courtyard....until one sunny May morning when I took my eye off her for two minutes whilst I popped back indoors. In that time she took herself off across the road and was sniffing around outside the Bailiffgate Museum which is opposite us. The school kids were coming out of the annex at the time and from what an onlooker told me one of the lads was showing off in front of his mates and ran at Lily and stamped his feet at her which made her dart across the road in fright - straight into the path of a car She was killed instantly and my neighbour came out and moved her body from the road and then knocked on my door I took her indoors as I always do when I lose a cat and put her body into her bed so my other two, Misty and Nina, could see that she had passed and went across to the school and made a complaint but nothing was done Sadly this is the only photo I have of her as I stupidly had them only on a computer which then conked out and Neil couldn't retrieve the photos ~ literally hundreds of all our previous foster cats

What a sad story. Your first Lily was a beautiful cat - looks like there was some Maine Coon in her.

That's what we reckoned too....she was MASSIVE!!!! We never did find out who she belonged to in Seahouses - I put up a photo in the local newsagents - so it looked like she may have been a keeper with us...until those stinking kids murdered her that is!!! Thankfully they are building a new school on the opposite side of town so we won't have to put up with them from summer 2016. I've got nothing against kids per se...it's just the way they come into our courtyard to smoke next to the clothes drying on the lines and just step out into the road without looking and they expect YOU to stop and let them walk across in front of you

That is terrible. After all those months she had a good time and then this. The bravado of those kids; I hate it. She was lovely.

that's so sad @gillykat. Kids can be so thoughtless.
She was a beautie.

Since moving up to Northumberland I've noticed a HUGE difference in the attitude towards animals than when I was growing up and living on Tyneside. Up here they prefer dogs and horses and cats are just a way to control mice & rats There's very few folk that I've met, even ones who keep cats as pets, who truly understand what amazing creatures they are and how they have just as much character and personality as a dog...just in a more subtle way

A lot of people have a cat and don't really bother with it - just feed it and send it out.

I've been saying that for years!!! Especially since starting fostering and getting to know so many different characters But what chance has a mere cat got when folks barely pay attention to their kids these days and value their stupid smart phones before owt else?

That's a pet hate of mine gillykat - the times I've seen a mother pushing her baby in a buggy with one hand and texting on her phone with the other or even worse, a toddler running ahead and the mother's eyes glued to her phone!! Honestly, you can't even do shopping around Asda's without 50% of the customers wandering around giving a running commentary to someone on their phone! How sad that people are so ADDICTED to a mobile phone. Top of their list is their phone so if they are like that when they are out they are probably worse in the house! poor neglected kids and poor neglected cats and dogs!

They're like that at work too!!! Constantly watching youtube videos or football matches or facebook! Customers to the post office counter get served straight away so they're not being ignored or anything but the second it's done all THREE staff plonk their bums back on a seat and pick up their phones It doesn't bother me but one day they're gonna get caught out by the boss and then there'll be holy hell to pay Neil actually bought me a basic smart phone for Christmas (only £35-ish) to see if I was ok with it and if I was I could show him how to use it and he could buy himself one. WELL.....I sussed out how to turn the alarm on the first evening but it took me ELEVEN days to suss out how to switch it off!!!!! It was pressing and poking the screen and it was Claire at work (who has a £400 version) who showed me how to swipe it across After a month I could switch the alarm on and off, use the calculator and occasionally answer a call without cutting the person off But I just could not fathom out how to put new phone numbers in (so had the vet's number on a sticker on the front of it's cover!), put credit on with a voucher and...well, everything else really!!! I persevered though as it was a pressie from Neil but last week he decided to give me my old phone back and HE took the smart phone to work to play about with it. He brought it back next morning and said he gave up!!!! So I'm back to my lovely ancient samsung which I can use without having to even look at it! To be honest all I use a phone for is calling folk, texting Neil and using the alarm to wake me up in the morning so I don't need a fancy expensive phone. I write everything down in my moleskine diary and have an address book too and always have my small digital camera with me....I'm such a dinosaur when it comes to technology

How's Kai Ruki now lotsofcats & is Blackberry still keeping him company? He's a lot better thank you. He is still dribbling a bit and I can still feel a bit of a lump on his jaw but it has gone down a lot. He has finished his antibiotics and is eating so well. I can actually feel that he is putting on weight. He is eating 3 sachets of food and his Maine Coon biscuits every evening at the moment!! Blackberry is still lying near to him in the night. The other night Kai Ruki was stretched out with Blackberry lying half on top of him in the same position and then Kali half on top of Blackberry the same.
