Hi Scallwag, after visiting the Vet' s last week and listening to comments in the waiting room, re Frontline, it seems and my Vet has agreed it isn't as effective as it used to be as the fleas have got used to it, I was having to repeat doses even though you are not supposed to as Allfie kept getting fleas even though I had washed all bedding and fumigated carpets etc., he was still getting them so in desperation I had a word with my Vet, so I have changed to Advantage. Maybe because you are using a combined one.

Go and pick up some Advocate from your Vet. Best stuff around. Flea and Wormer all in one.

Advocate does sound like a wonder product doesn't it? However it is no good if your dog gets regularly wet! When I last used some it says dog must not get wet within 4 days of treatment and should not get wet more than once a month, no good for me whose dogs are swimming at least twice a week It does not cover ticks. It does not cover one of the worms, think tapeworm so occasionally you will need to treat for this separately. You should also speak to your vet if you own collies or OES before using (there is a chemical in it that can cause problems) You also have to use monthly. I think that's a lot of chemicals you are putting on your dog. Most flea treatments are once every 8 weeks and wormers are usually every 3 months!!

Never heard of that to be honest, I'm using Advantage this year though because so many people have said that Frontline and the Combi are not stopping the fleas.

Luckily we haven't had any problem with fleas and we use Frontline for Cats every 4 weeks for 3 out of our 4 cats. We have changed Roman from it only at the end of last year as he got a bald spot at the site of application & the vet decided it may well be a reaction to the treatment & in fact has reported it as an adverse reaction. The suggestion was to change to Advantage or Advocate. I choose Advocate but still give a wormer every 3 months as although the Advocate is a wormer as well it doesn't cover all the worms that the wormer specific does. Interestingly Frontline also covers ticks but the other 2 don't. Can't seem to get everything in one. Don't know if this applies to the dog products though.
Haven't heard of the either of the other 2 mentioned, sorry

We use drontal for worming Jasp, but we haven't used any flea treatment as yet and not seen anything, when and if we do I'll use a flea shampoo instead of a continuous product. When the cats first started to come in my house a few years ago they were riddled with fleas. ( they were my neighbours cats ) so I used a flea spray then used frontline after that and they've been clear since, but this year I've not used anything.

I use advocate on Jasper. However I get mine from BestPet Pharmacy as you can get 6 x spot ons for the price of 3 at the vets. However you need to get a prescription from the vet, which is usually around Β£10.
However as Caz said its no good if your dog gets wet more than twice, fortunately Jasper doesn't like to swim and I only bath him once a month between treatments.
Finally, I'm sure there's one worm that it doesn't protect against but I can't remember which one it is (I think it was Caz that mentioned it) so I need to buy some Drontal. He hasn't been wormed in nearly 2 years. Fortunately we haven't come into contact with it so far. Touch wood!

You can get a wormer that just covers the missing worm Advocate does not cover (same company does one). Dont know name of product!! However if you don't have fleas (afterall Advocate kills them all ) you should not really get the tapeworms!!
