One of my mutts is on antibiotics and today she aimed for a poo. First time ever and very out of character. Guessing as antibiotics kill the good as well as the bad she is trying to re-balance her system. Poor mite!! Has anyone ever given their dog a Yakult? Wanting to get something quick and easy so supermarket would be ideal!! Its only for a few days till she finishes the antibiotics.

Hey caz2golden Wouldn't Natural Yogurt be better and may be safer? Helps to maintain the healthy bacteria in the stomach and all that?!?

I would use a natural probiotic yogurt. And i would give it now, during as well as after the course of ABs.

doh!! I got some Yakolts today! I did not want to wait! Been reading tonight and they probably were not the best thing due to sugar content but also have not seen any real bad reports. Some vets recommend it!! A friend who I trust had said they are ok to use. I should have done more background reading! oh well you live and learn!! I will give 1/2 bottle a day and see if I get any unwanted results!! Its not as if there are many to use up!! Double doh!! (edit: she has 3 more days of tablets and has been on them about a week so far)

I always have some probiotics in my FA kit and I give prebiotics too. Yakult and Actimel are very expensive (and environmentally unfriendly) ways to give them.
I use Yumpro

Thanks for the recommendation smokeybear . I will be looking into probiotics and sources for when I do my move to raw so will consider this tablet option. I was considering using a natural yogurt once a fortnight but it may be better to use the tablets The yakolt thing was just a short term thing to get over the antibiotics issue which seemed to be starting and just needed to get something quickly. Now I have them I will use them up but I obviously will never use them again!
