I hope it works dogs should be allowed on beaches it's a nice different place for them and banning wouldn't be fair.

Hope it does It is just coming out in local news via parish councils etc that there are to be 'restrictions' at many/most of the regular dog walking areas (i.e most of the local open spaces)!! I have written to council to get what the plans are and then will comment directly to them. Doubt anything any of us say will make any difference if the council has already decided that this is to happen Dogs have to be walked somewhere and I would like to know where that somewhere is to be if the plans are what I expect!!

We had similar thing here some years ago.We already had a partial beach ban from 1st May to 1st October, which no one objected to,but our council wanted to extend it.Petitions were signed by very many residents and visitors, and Look North came to film,It was a perfect sunny day, lots of dogs and owners, and there were no dog squabbles even though there were so very many owners and dogs on the beach at one time.It was great to see it on the t.v. news and it made the council realise how strong peoples feelings were.People can also use their votes and vote councillors out at the next local elections. It's no good just giving in and saying it's no good fighting a decision, you can't just accept the unacceptable. You don't cave in without a fight. The North Bay beach is very clean, and hundreds of dogs must exercise on it every day,but you rarely see any dogs mess on it,so it proves the people who use it are responsible owners. Antisocial dog owners gave the anti dog brigade the ammunition to hit dog owners with bans in the first place.

Hopefully it will work and if it doesn't it will be a real shame. I go to the beach with my two very rarely because almost every beach in my area and ones that are about 20-30 minutes drives away are closed to dogs and the ones that aren't are only open to dogs during the winter - when it is freezing bloody cold! I hope it works and 700 wow, that is a lot. It must mean a lot to dog walkers and dogs if that many people turned up to stop the ban - the judges will be able to guess that I'm sure!

P.S;Very good advice was given in Dogs Today magazine, which I had saved, for starting petitions (which must have address as well as signature),getting in touch with the media, it also advised people to keep an eye out in the small public notices sections at the back of local newspapers,as this is where the new notices will be and easily missed. The ban from the 1st of May is far too early anyway,as the weather on the east coast is often perishing right up until June. It's galling to see from the section of beach we are allowed on,the other huge stretch of beach devoid of people because it's too flipping cold. Sometimes the only people on the beach at all are us hardy dog walkers.

In my hometown we have Woolacombe Beach and it is split in half by a river, so that dog walkers have one half and and people that come to the beach with their kids or to surf have the other half. Works really well.

There is a beach I go that has rules but they cannot decide who is to enforce them.

caz2golden Your second post - was it referring to a ban near you? If so then please keep me informed as I am localish!?! Southwold beach ban dogs between May & September but you can still walk dogs on another two parts of the beach. And I know a lot of other beaches do the same. Lets hope more decide to do that than just give out right bans?!

They are inland restrictions rather than beach (Bradwell, Belton and Burgh Castle areas) but need to get details as to if they are bans or on lead!! A couple of local walks now have restrictions for ground nesting birds which is understandable

Gladys, it is a change to the anti fouling law and they are putting an additional layer that dogs causing issues can be requested to be on leads. Not so worried now!! Only problem is one place I usually walk off lead will be formally dogs on leads

So a bit of good and a bit of bad news then?? Is there any off lead time available near the on lead part?
