Last year, the local foxes would get into our house through Oscar's cat flap and eat his food, infact I had one encounter where I had to chase one out of the house! As a result we installed a new cat flap which would only let in the cat whose micro chip was registered to the cat flap - so far, this seems to be working. However, a new litter of fox cubs (there's about 8 of them last time we counted!!) have emerged from the den at the bottom of our garden and they've been eyeing up the cat flap, Oscar and more importantly his food, I saw one watching me feed Oscar the other day from just outside the window before I knocked on the window and the fox ran away. There has also been lots of fox faeces around the cat flap area. It's such a shame because I love having the foxes in our garden but to cut a long story short, has anyone got any tips on discouraging them?

Its lovely that you enjoy having the foxes as residents in your garden. They obviously feel safe and as you say, and in the past have taken advantage of your Oscars food. You say they cant enter the house no more and that they are leaving a mess at the door. Usually the mess is message that "this is my patch" its for other foxes not yourself. The easiest solution would be to give them some dry food at the bottom of your garden - then they would have no reason to enter your domain other than to ask "please feed me" Lol

Hmm, I'd be wary if I were you of trying to repell the foxes as most things that would get rid of them would be very unpleasant for Oscar too and of course you don't want to push him away. The best thing I can suggest with that in mind is to get a high fence which is dug deep into the ground, blocking the foxes out. If Oscar goes outside the graden, then you could put a cat flat in the fence, one of the microchip ones again. Other than this, I'd suggest you move the cat food to another room of the house as the foxes will be able to smell it and if you move the food to somewhere else then that might lessen the strength of the scent and make it less enticing. With both of these ideas you might get to still enjoy having the foxes there too. Also, got any photos of the foxes?
