Hi was looking for advice really. My partners Gran is looking to get either a cockatiel or a parrot she has owned both cockatiel & parrot...african grey to be exact. As she is an elderly lady I was thinking maybe a older rescue cockatiel or parrot would possibly suit her best? She has asked us to keep an eye out but as she doesn't use the internet and lives in the middle of no where basically, we are trying to help but have no knowledge on birds or what to look for when picking a bird or even where to look. We live in Scotland I'm not sure of any other details you may need to help but let me know.
Thanks allot

I don't have any experience with parrots but looked after a Cockatiel once. They are such great birds, but I always think its unfair keeping them in cages. What sort of size does she have or is it an aviary?

Hi bubbles87 - Cockatiels are part of the budgie family and are a great bird to start with - they can learn some words and sounds and are best to get from a young age. They won't be too disruptive either. An African grey parrot is the best talker out of all the species, however they are very demanding and need lots of attention. These are also more expensive to buy. There's more information about the different types of parrots on our website www.yourparrot.co.uk, plus a few health and care sections on housing/feeding etc...

Thank you Your Pet that will be very helpful. I dont think it has to be an affican grey again, I personally think with her being an elderly lady she would be better with a less demanding bird. You dont happen to know of any rescue places? Thanks again
