Without googling, I would have said Stag or Red Squirrel, as I didn't know myself. I have googled, and now I am embarrassed

I think I read this in a gift shop/cafe on a Scotland holiday but can't for the life of me remember, I'm sure it's a mystical creature/thing but know it's not a dragon??

I must admit I was thinking of a real animal as opposed to mythical/symbol, so was going for red deer or wild cat.
I know the English symbol is the Lion (but not really an animal of England much more a symbol of power) but as to an actual english animal I'd have to say deer, fox although the boar would be a good contender as it was the emblem of Richard III. But of course the modern one is Bulldog!!!

I thought that England's was a Bulldog, or Welsh Corgi
