On Saturday and Sunday I noticed Kai Ruki doing something strange out in the cat pen - he was repeatedly licking the mesh on the pen! I don't know what to think about it. Does he find it cool because the weather is so hot?
Kai Ruki had his vet check and booster on Saturday morning and the vet was very pleased with him as he has put on weight and now weighs 5.51 kilos - he should be a good weight as he's a Maine Coon. I have had a lot of problems with him in the past as he used tob e very highly strung and was so skinny but he has now changed and is a very happy cat and gets on with the other cats much better. The vet said he was a handsome cat. I get 10% discount in my vets because I have 9 pets - it all helps.

How odd of Kai Ruki. I would have thought the mesh might have been hotter unless it was the shady side. Or was there something on it - had Toffee brought another present & the remnants where there?
Glad the weight is back on hime, he's now about the weight of Roman & Osiris (5.4Kg & 5.6Kg) Nice to know he's getting on better with the others & is happy. Good discount. I got a deal today with the vets - as I finallly got round to asking if I could buy Penny's Loxicom (Metacam) in bulk to save me prescription charges. They agreed so, as she was last seen in May, I could have 4 months worth (well 4 bottles which will last more like 5 months) as they need to see her every 6 months, then when they see her in 4 months I can order 6 months worth. Its always worth asking about deals.

It is worth asking in the vets for any discount Toni, they will usuall give it, but won't offer it! If I don't mention the 10% discount to the vet when they are putting the details in the computer then I don't get it, they won't remind me. How much do vets charge for prescriptions?
I'm dreading my vet visit tomorrow with Aztec - it's just to have his claws cut by the veterinary nurse. Aztec makes such a fuss, he really struggles and yelps and growls - he is getting quite nasty with me lately. He is blind and has recently got much deafer too. I have been trying to cut his fur as he looks like a cross between a gremlin and the Tazmanian Devil! I managed to cut some of it when I gave him a shower the other day; I just had to cut chunks of it while I was showering him - I didn't get to finish as he started to get nasty again.

It is always worth shopping on the internet too if you are on permanent meds with your pets, example Tobi had to be on Milbemax 10 tablets from my vet cost me £50.88, I got them from vetscriptions 50 tablets for £139.99, I had to buy a prescription for £7 from my vets and it had 3 x uses, certainly worth it. tonib what are you paying per 15ml bottle of Loxicom ? Sorry for the hijack lotsofcats x

Toni
perhaps there's something else going on with Aztec? Sometimes the behaviour changes with physcial conditions, just thinking blood pressure or dementia.

I managed to cut some of it when I gave him a shower the other day; I just had to cut chunks of it while I was showering him - I didn't get to finish as he started to get nasty again. Poor Aztec, it must be unnerving for him, can't see & just odd sounds, thank goodness he has a better sense of smell than us humans. I think if I was him I'd be quite nasty when there's scissors close to me - I can still remember having an eye operation as a 9/10 year old & when they took the stitches out either side of the eye it was really unnerving having pointed scissors getting that close to my eye, even though I knew what was going on & was in safe hands. However it must be difficult for you as well. Did he enjoy his shower otherwise? As to claws cutting, vet nurses are brilliant aren't they. We took Penny yesterday - no way will she let me hold her paw long enough to trim even one nail. The vet had problems over a year ago & suggested seeing the vet nurse with gauntlets available & potentially an anaesthetic. She was booked in & was much better behaved & has been since. The nurse commented yesterday that she's getting even better - mellowing was her words. Hope all goes well for Aztec tomorrow. I have thought about internet shopping for the Loxicom. The vet charges £10 for a prescription, which would last for 6 months. If we get it from the vets there is a £4.50 dispensing charge. Which as I got 4 bottles this time saved me £13.50. Forgot to ask what the individual bottle cost but worked it to be £14.02 each. They also say on their website that The practice owner has also said that to me personally. I have done that in the past as regards some Hill's cat food when it was newly out & they did come to an arrangement that allowed them a bit of overhead covering on top of the wholesaler's price & was a little more than the cheapest internet price but meant I got it quicker. They also tend to use the cheaper versions of drugs where they can. They've swapped from Frontline to Fibricat & Fibridog & use Loxicom instead of Metacam. Interestingly it varies on the internet which of those is cheaper. As a result of starting to type this post I've rechecked the internet suppliers I use & found that I could get it considerably cheaper even taking into account the £10 prescription charge. So may have a word with the vets when I'm need to get the next lot (at least 4 months away). Thanks for the reminder to check.
