I'm getting a fish tank again! I didn't much like owning fish before because I was on my own. This time around we're getting a proper decent sized tank and its going to be a family venture. My Dad and I are going 50/50 on the price, but are now arguing about what is going to go in it... We're getting this one, from a FB ad. It's 100cm long, by 2ft deep by 2ft high. This is it... And when it was in use He wants marine fish. I'd prefer goldfish but I know its not really big enough for them, so I think we'll get Marine fish. Nemo!!! Hopefully picking it up tomorrow!

Awesome SarahHound!!!! I loved owning Fish in a tank, before they grew too big and had to be moved the the Pond Outdoors! I still obviously love them now though!

Nice tank and cabinet. I'd love marine fish but they are just so expensive and finicky with salt levels and such.I think I'll keep my tropicals. Whenever I'm in maidenhead aquatics which is the main place we go to buy fish I spend most of the time looking at the marine fish, they have a fantastic display of marine fish and corals, including a black clown fish I call Emo! My sisters friend works there too so discounts!

Lovely SarahHound, I have a fish-tank about that size with 5 fantail fish in. They have plenty of room, my dad knows how many should go into a certain sized tank as he use to own tropical fish (before I was born) in a fishtank the size of a single bed! Sadly he had to give them to a friend when I came along... Some lived for 20 years, my dad had them for 19 of those years

Marine fish aren't as difficult to keep as people make out.
And just FYI.... Don't go into the store and use the word 'Nemo'... You'll most likely get refused the sale and laughed out of the shop.
My friend works at a marine store and daily he gets parents coming in with their kids wanting to buy 'Nemos' and 'Dorys' for their kids first fish tank.
He nearly punched me when I called them 'Nemos' instead of Clown Fish.

Haha, I suppose it's the staff being responsible and not selling an animal to someone who doesn't even know the name of the fish. Surely a goldfish would be better for a fist time owner. Marine fish just have such vivid colours compared to others.

My local fish shop states that tropical fish are actually easier to look after than cold water fish. Opinion varies greatly.

Yes, tropicals are much easier

Definitely. The only difference is that they need a heater. They're generally smaller so you can have more in a tank, don't create as much waste either so need less algae cleans.

I'd love tropicals, if I'm being honest. However I'm buying the tank for him really, he needs a project, so whatever he decides, goes
