She was investigating & climbing on the other pot today lotsofcats . Today the car told me it was 19C when I was leaving the Sainsbury's (near you cazypops ) at about 14:45 & within a couple of minutes it was showing 20C but had dropped to 17C within 15/20 minutes as I was nearing home about 15 miles further south! No coat required today even considered sitting outside the cafe were I'd met someone for a coffee mid-morning but it was chilly if out of the sun so stayed inside! Yes it's been unnaturally hot here today, make even hotter by working right next to the window with the afternoon sun shining through. Lets make the most of it, as I predict snow for March.

Amazing temperatures for February. Snow? No, no, no! We've got rain forecast for Thursday and the weekend.

Last week was BIZARRE!!!!!! I was off Monday & Tuesday and moving a few things around on the allotment and the thermometer said 24c!!! Unbelievable weather for February! Monty Don said on Twitter that the last time he remembered it being like this was in 1976......and we all know where THAT went! Back to normal by the weekend and today has seen heavy rain overnight but now, just gone 1pm, the sun has come out Looking wet again tonight and tomorrow though.

24c! Amazing. The plants are way ahead. The hazel trees are plastered in lambs tails - hopefully we will see as many hazelnuts in August/September unless they have to rely on bees to pollinate them first! In my garden I have my Lavatera shrub covered in flower buds.

Yes, everything IS a wee bit ahead Don't know if this is a good thing in that Nature knows it's going to be a good summer or whether this freaky mild & hot weather is a blip which will turn suddenly and cause untold damage. I was chatting to a few allotment folk on FB last week and a few of the new-to-allotments folk were talking about starting off their seeds. It's still way too early....or it is up here in Northumberland TBH. Last week I had a Small Tortoiseshell and a Peacock on the allotment as well as 3 different types of bumblebee! Then on Monday I had a male Hairy-footed Flower Bee zooming around.....in 2017 I saw them on March 30th and last year not until 15th April!

I agree @gillykat that it's still too early to start off any seeds. Hubby's got his tomatoes germinated but they are in the house on the windowsill. I've seen some bees too, but no butterflies yet.

I start mine off on my south-facing living room window too. Not yet though....I wait until around the 3rd week of March and then decide whether to do them then or wait another week Must admit I'm champing at the bit for proper seed sowing to begin as I have a few heritage (old-fashioned) varieties of veg to grow this year (free as part of my membership of Garden Organic's Heritage Seed Library) .....including a pea which reputedly came from the tomb of Tutankhamun Weatherwise it's a bluuurrr day......grey, cloudy. not much happening First time this week it hasn't rained, mind!

Heritage varieties of veg sound good. I had to smile at the pea from Tutankhamun's tomb. I hope it grows.

Heritage varieties of veg sound good. I had to smile at the pea from Tutankhamun's tomb. I hope it grows. So do I - I love peas I've only ever grown a variety called Hurst Greenshaft which is really tasty. This year I'd like to do some sugarsnap as well as the two varieties of Heritage - Freer's Mummy Pea and Dun Freer's Mummy Pea
Named after our donor, this pea came from Lord Carnarvon's garden at Highclere Castle. It was passed to her family by a former gardener there and is another variety reputed to be from the tomb of Tutankhamun. They are a very tall (>2.5m), vigorous, white flowered variety requiring sturdy staking to support the exceptionally large crop of pods produced. The peas are tender, delicious, and freeze well.
