My cats are often naughty - they have scratched the side of my armchairs, ripped the wallpaper in several places and pulled all the sealant off the windows. Here's the problem - last week I had new windows and doors installed. New windows means fresh new sealant. Hubby said that the cats had better leave it alone this time. Unfortunately, he was inspecting the windows on Sunday and some naughty cat (no names mentioned Kai Ruki) had dug his claws in the sealant - HELP! what can I do to stop him doing it? - I don't want to call the fitter up every month or so to replace the sealant! Sunday night and last night I put all ornaments across the windowsill when I got the cats in. I can watch the cats until I go to bed so it must be happening before I get up in the morning. I think cats have a mad moment at about 5am - well they did when I was once ill and slept on the sofa in the night.
Any suggestions better than hubby's suggestions of: 1) Sending Kai Ruki to sleep in the shed with Toffee 2) Giving him away! (he was joking) 3) Locking him in the cat cage

- Can you put a clear tape over the sealant?
- Has the fitter any advice?
- Is there anything that can be put on the sealant to deter cats - think =ing of some of the products used to deter cats in gardens but then that might deter them completely from the windowsills etc. which you probably don't want to do.
Good luck P.S. Kai Ruki & clan, you'd better stop attacking the sealant, its not good for your insides & is sure to get you in real trouble with the servants, they don't like draughts. Roman

Oh no, They need grounding with no pocket money for a week lol.
Don't know how you will stop them, I once had a very naughty cat, she was so destructive, I got her when she was 10 months old, she scratched carpets, chewed doors and cost a lot of money when I had to replace 3 back doors with new ones as she had scratched them so badly they looked awful.I had to replace a lounge carpet and an hall, stairs and landing carpet...She stopped at the age of six years old.

Oh my goodness, what a naughty girl! only 2 more years for me to go then! Kai Ruki is 4 at the moment. In my list I forgot to mention the doors - I have doors with glass top panels and the cats jump up at them and hang from the edge on the bottom of the glass - it looks as if I have a bad case of woodworm.

Have to google the word "sealant" but anyway I've never learned how to stop cats doing bad things. You don't want to see my furniture. Good luck!

Ooh never had this to deal with. My new windows got installed without any incident from my puddies. Erm, just going to echo the suggestion that something is put there as a deterrent; I know my cats do not like the smell of oranges, so, maybe orange essential oil on a tissue?
