Hello We currently have our kittens on raw but are thinking of switching to kibble & wet. The reason being, it is quite a lot of hassle to do raw, plus it doesn't suit the way they like to free feed - it's just not working very well. So.... Our plan (if we decide to go ahead) would be to leave kibble out for them, pretty much 24/7. A high meat one with ideally no grain. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations? I'm considering Orijen, Ziwipeak and Canagan. Anyone use any of these? For the wet, we would give them this at "mealtimes" twice a day, so they got something nice and "meaty". Again, any suggestions? I was thinking something like Lily's Kitchen or Natures Menu? They will still get some raw meaty bones, like chicken wings, every now & then for teeth cleaning. Thanks in advance

3 of our 4 cats eat kibble & wet, the 4th (Osiris) won't touch kibble at all even a piece of ham (his favourite) which has been in fingers that have touched kibble!!!
We feed Hill's (prescription diet for weight loss/maintenance) for Penny. James WellBeloved for Lexie & Roman (the latter, as he likes it, gets a little Royal Canin Fit32 as well but it disagrees with Lexie). However I know a number of people have commented on the contents of those foods but they work well for our cats, especially Lexie who has a sensitive stomach/IBS associated with stress.
As to wet we mainly use Felix in its various forms with Penny having some Gourmet Gold to have her meds in. Osiris is a very fussy eater so tends to get whatever he currently prefers. Sheba is something he'll eat.
As to the kibble brands you mention I've personally not tried any of them or even seen them although I have heard of Orijen. I've tried Lily' Kitchen & Nature's Menu but they didn't get the thumbs up from the cats!
Most dried foods are complete cat foods but not all moist is so you need to watch out for that. Complimentary cats foods are fine but should not form the only/majority feed as there could be necessary requirements missing. Also thinking of the age you'll need kitten food which I have no experience of.
As to frequency what you describe is how we feed our cats. We also pay attention to the recomme's whilst we were at work, so watch how much any individual kitten eats.
Sorry not much help.

Thanks for the replies, tonib & bextull. We were at a dog event today, where the pet food company "Happy Dog/Cat" were, and they gave us a free 1kg bag of kitten biscuits. So that will last us a little while. In the meantime I am going to keep looking up about the different options, wish they had a "WhichCatFood" website (like the dog one!!) it would be so much easier then!

Me too, I would love a WhichCatFood. I could finally show my parents why I think what I do about our food. Your plan is pretty much what we do with Mrs.Woman. Nobody touches her food for fear of their life. We could do it with Charlie but not Morandi, his stomach is a bottomless pit and seeing as they are always fed together, it's just easier to give them set meals.

Mine are mostly on dry food (we switch between the decent brands, at the moment its Applaws) and they get half to a whole pouch of either Whiskas or Felix. I think as long as their dry food is decent its not a big issue if they have something 'junky' like those. Rigsy gets a whole pouch, Lucky and Skye get half a pouch each.

They are eating the Happy Cat Kitten biscuits at the moment, I decided to get them some Applaws for next time as I can easily get hold of it, and I''ll see how they get on with that. I think we will probably end up switching between brands anyway to give them some variety. For the pouches I have some Natures Menu at the moment, but again, I think we will probably go for a more "junky" one, like you do SarahHound because otherwise it would work out quite expensive. For example I can get Whiskas kitten pouches, for 3.50 euros in Tescos, 1200g worth. The same amount in Natures Menu kitten pouches would cost 30 euros !!!!!!

Hi I spent a lot of time on the internet looking into cat food and found that the best dry food would be Orijen and Applaws. The wet I use is Grau from zooplus. However, the Happy Kitty Company sell high quality cat food at reasonable prices and all the ones they do are excellent, (they also sell a trial pack); I am looking to place an order with them today. Here are some to look at: Grau, Animonda Carny, Macs, Bozita (cans), Catz fine foods, Ropocat, Onnomnom, Taffys, Petnatur, Tiger, Feringa. I personally would stay away from the ones sold in the supermarkets.
Hope that is of some help.

All of my cats have enjoyed belly rubs and it took me a while to realize it was unusual.

I currently feed my 7 cats both wet food and kibble. The wet food I buy is usually Felix Sensations, Doubly Delicious or Marinades and I sometimes buy Applaws, which the cats love - but I wouldn't feed Applaws all the time as it's considered a complimentary food.
The kibble food I buy is Royal Canin Maine Coon and I vary the other cats kibble - I have bought Royal Canin Fit, James Wellbeloved Light, Purina, Royal Canin Exogent and Hills Science Plan. I have tried both Orijen and Acana which are more expensive, but really good quality and the cats loved them both.
