Come on peeps. Everyone should know that info given on forums are just ideas and personal choices. You either take it, leave it or do your own research. Yes, why is everyone starting a funny disagreement on arguing? If people are going to start bickering over something as off topic as that, then people will just get annoyed. On forums, you've got to read something, think wheather it is going to be helpful, take it or leave it, or do everything yourself. They're all personal opinions to try and help - a bit of a debate here and there is fine, but about opinions themselves?? Now shall we get on

I don't feed raw - but can I ask why he must be fasted? Like I said I don't feed raw so I wouldn't know. Earl wouldn't go without complaining hugely if he were to be fasted Good luck I believe you fast for a day to give the dog's system time to clear out any remaining kibble. You can mix a little kibble/wet food with the raw food but it is not usually recommended, but I did it for a good year with no problems. You don't have to fast either, you could just give dinner as kibble and then the next morning go straight onto raw.

Well he has had some kibble this morning, and as bextull said to empty his system of kibble, he has also had another small bone frozen solid but is still really enjoying it and giving it a good munching, we are going to speak to out local butcher tommorow to get some nice good bones for him as he is on the prize choice beef bones at the moment and they are quite small especially for barley.

He has had 2 bones for breakfast and will be getting his meat and veg for tea
does anyone who feed raw let the bones defrost completly as barley likes them frozen i tried him on them defrosted this morning and still liked them but they went all gooey and bloody when they defrosted.

Most of Oscars bones are either fully or half frozen. I'm a forgetful person and may only take out his dinner at 5 when its due to be given in an hour! Raw bones will be bloody when defrosted, usually but it depends on the bone. Chicken bones are just delightful, along with pig trotters! Just a word about feeding veg, if you are giving offal then I would leave out the veg that day because the both have a laxative effect. You could feed the offal with the very boney meals too as it helps loosen up stools.

BT: he loved the bones, he was in the back garden all morning munching on them
we are going to our local butchers this afternoon to get some more bones for him
He has eaten 90% of his meal but has left the rest, he was very keen to start with them lost interest the more he ate, unusuall for him to pass eating meat, have taken his bowl up and thrown away the left over mush.
Bextull: he did seem to prefer them raw as they lasted a bit longer, he is on prize choice beef bones at the moment but will be getting some better ones from the butcher this afternoon, the prize choice ones are a bity rubbish, lots of meat and not much bone.

Bones take a lot of effort to chew. His jaws could have easily gotten tired, hence him not finishing the meal. I don't feed beef bones but maybe something a little less dense and hard would be better for him to start off with.

they are not good quality bones and are mainly meat instead of bones
Bextull: have you ever fed oscar whole or half of a chicken?
i have given him an egg with the shell slightly crushed and he seemed to like it, i added his salmon oil and evening primrose oil to the egg, i did give his meal to him a bit early, so he may not have been that hungry

He has had whole chicken carcases, chicken quarters and half chickens before but never a full one. He's only a small fella, and only gets 250-300g per day(I'm not 100% sure of that though, I haven't measured things in ages), a whole chicken is a little big to give him.
