Dropped my camera this morning. Looks like I need a new one. Any recommendations or tips? Thanks.

Depends on what you are looking for. I have 2, a small fuji one with 10x optical zoom and then a bigger Nikon one which is more "professional" with its functions etc and has a 21x optical zoom.
They both take fairly good photos, the fuji one works well for general stuff but its horrible when its darker out. The Nikon is pretty good all round, but it can be blurry.

Thanks for your reply.
I'd like something with around 10MP, not too bulky, good optical zoom - at least say 10x. Not too many programmes as I tend to use it on auto.

Well my fuji has 12MP with 10x OZ. Its also got video function . Its nice size, would fit in your pocket and very sturdy. Mines been dropped 10s of times in and outdoors, most recently in a mucky broken frozen puddle byt its still alive with hardly any scratches! Its the finepix jz300.
The nikon might be too big for what you want but its the coolpix L120

I have a Fujifilm camera, it is very good, I got it for christmas just gone off my brother and I love it! It is quite light, blue, 5X optical zoom, 14 mega.pixels and HD movie. If not, I would recommend a Nikon or Samsung camera, very good brands!! Good luck!

I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ8 which is 14mpx and has a 12x optical zoom. It's a standard digital camera, not too bulky at all. It has a decent selection of programs on it, although the only one I really use is the multi burst function as once you get the camera focused, you can get some decent shots. I've used it at gigs as well as our on walks. You can also alter the exposure manually if you know about such things (I don't really). It's a couple of years old now and cost £250 when I bought it, but I imagine it'll have gone down in price now.

Thanks everybody for taking the time to respond. Whilst looking at the compact cameras suggested I came across Canon Ixus 500 HS. Extremely well specified, smaller than most in the same 'class' around £134 and nice colours to choose from. So might be putting that on my Christmas or birthday wish list.

Canon is a brilliant make of camera! I'd have one myself but their bigger DSLR's are way out of my price range!

Have always gone with Canon myself and never been let down.
Had a compact digital camera before moving onto a DSLR, but I can't remember the model. They probably don't sell them anymore anyway. Between us, PFT and I have a Canon EOS 500D and a Canon 5D mk 2 which are both brilliant, but not really necessary if you just want it for snaps or don't want to lug around a massive camera bag every time you go out.

UNLESS you realllllllly prefer canon cameras, in which case you don't want to buy lots of lenses and accessories for Nikon only to change over to Canon later. Camera body doesn't affect the quality of your photos as much as lenses do. I had a D3100 which is almost the same camera, and it was so light and easy to take everywhere! Get yourself a few lenses instead, MUST haves for dog photography: 50mm f/2 or f/1.8 and 70-300mm f/4 :-)
