My lovely Bramble has made it to 16. She shared her Dreamies with the other cats. Her new bed hasn't arrived yet. She's taken to sleeping in the outside part of the cat pen in the daytime, so she's having a bed with a hooded part to keep her warm.

Bramble has perked up. She had an antibiotic injection that lasts 48 hours (didn't have the long lasting one). She has tablets to continue taking tomorrow and she also had a painkiller injection.
Kai Ruki has an appointment for tomorrow. His left back leg keeps giving way.

Kai Ruki has arthritis in his back leg. He's got Metacam off the vet. I was crafty and booked the appointment for his booster so I wouldn't have to pay the consultation fee. I'm going to Google what supplements I can give him.

Belated Happy 16th Birthday Bramble. Sorry to hear you had cystitis but the vet looked after you & I hope you are feeling much better. Poor Kai Ruki, arthritis isn't fun for cats that jump as they have to land on some hard surfaces. lotsofcats I posted this back in I can't believe it 3 out of our 4 cats with arthritis! I still think it has something to do with jumping/climbing over our high gate & landing on hard paving slabs, at least for Roman & Osiris (Penny could never do that). We've now got the gate open but think we've found a solution to them needing to jump over. Not quite the artistic gate in this article though www.jackiemorris.co.uk/blog/in-the-garden-on-a-warm-day/ We resolved the gate jumping issue by having a slot cut in the bottom of the gate (appropriately reinforced & smoothed edges) which is cat walking height & width. Works well but also makes it easier for local cats to use it! Roman was diagnosed in 2014 (aged 10) & Osiris in 2015 (aged 9)! Penny was around 11. All 3 of them had/have Nutraquin+ which, although only a supplement, was originally only available from vets but this year company also started selling it direct. www.nutravet.co.uk/product/nutraquinplus/Interestingly I see they also have another joint supplement www.nutravet.co.uk/product/nutraflex only difference is 100mg less but has turmeric extra. (I think its newer and is only available from vets not sold direct) I've spoken to the company in the past & they've always been helpful so if you're interested in these perhaps give them a call. I've also looked at their find a stockist on the website & there are some vets in your area who are listed but I've a feeling yours is not one of them but its worth checking or if not perhaps the others would help you, Nutravet have a £3.49 (+VAT) delivery charge on top of the product so a price check with the vets could be worthwhile. I know that others on the forum have used other supplements Over the last year a new treatment, Solensia, has been licensed which is a monthly injection but is supposed to be better than NSAID or steroids if there is any sign or risk of kidney disease. Not cheap though (£127.60 for 2 months) although it is available online for around £83-88 but then you would need a written prescription from the vets which would cover 6 months so 3 purchases (as is sold in packs of 2) plus delivery charges as has to be kept refrigerated. So the costs need balancing out. Also I believe it can be administered by the owner with the vets consent (rather like insulin) so the cost of syringes needs to be taken into account but it could reduce the vet's charges for monthly injections. Swings & roundabouts. Osiris has recently started it as he can't have Metacam due to his probable kidney disease & long-term steroids are not ideal either. It does seem to work. I believe Scruffsmaz's dog was on the canine equivalent Librela which was licenced in the UK before the feline one. Like you I combined Osiris's last injection with his vaccinations vet visit last Wednesday
