Gypsy is starting to need a bit more help in regard to her joints, first time in her life she is starting to get stiff after runs. She has been to vets and we are trying Laser therapy with her. Vet and I are trying to delay having to go down the NSAIDs route as with her history she is not the best candidate for them (when she has gad them in past it turns her poos to sweet potato orange colour). She is on Riaflex joint plus (standard joint supplement) She is also on Riaflex Green Lipped Mussel which should complement to the joint plus. Now thinking about what else might be an option in support of the above. Due to pancreatic issue got to be careful regarding adding of any oils. Adding an omega 3 capsule does not suit on a daily basis so currently just making sure she has some fish as part of her overall diet which seems to suit her better. Has anyone found Dorwest Garlic and Fenugreek used with their mixed veg tablets (as they compliment each other) help when used alongside a standard joint supplement? Both are on their joint section of their website. www.dorwest.com/category/shop-by-condition/joints-mobility/ Alternatively has anyone found Finer By Nature Super Greens help alongside standard joint supplement? Reading blurb the barleygrass and wheatgrass in it supposedly is linked with helping with joints. www.finerbynature.co.uk/shop/super-dogs-greens/ I have both the Dorwest and Finer by Nature products in the house as I recently bought things for Phoebe due to her skin issues. She has been currently trying the Dorwest ones.

Sorry to hear Gypsy’s having trouble with her joints. It’ll be interesting to see if the laser therapy helps. Unfortunately I don’t have any experience with either of those products so can’t really help. Millie’s on Yumove, and Joint Aid, and has an Omega 3 capsule. That normally does the trick but she has needed some extra help with metacam the last couple of weeks and she’s looking a bit better again now. Hope someone can help and you find something that helps Gypsy.

May as well add to this thread! Recently Gypsy had x-rays to assess what her joints really look like. Looks like it is hips are the issue over her stifles which is where i past vet has implied issue laid. She is confirmed with having arthritis. Having said that vet seems happy we are along right treatment course at the moment with the laser therapy and standard joint care supplement (I am using Riaflex joint plus and their green lipped mussel powders). She also gets some turmeric paste (but due to pancreatic issues rely on fat already in her diet rather than adding an oil) At the moment its about a teaspoon worth a day. She has oily fish as part of her diet (she can not tolerate omega 3 capsules or fish oil) She gets jointed bones like necks as part of her diet and occasionally a trachea. Is there any other foods which are linked to help support dogs with arthritis? When I say this could be herbs, spices, fruits, veg etc. Elsewhere there has been a suggestion that boswellia is good to help keep discomfort at bay. Has anyone used this with their pets and if so where do you source it? Thinking of asking vet in regard to if this might be an option for Gypsy but would like to know more about it like side effects etc. milliepup04 laser therapy I would say is not miracle changer but I do think it helps her.

caz2golden, Another source of supplements containing Boswellia is in both Nutramed & Nutraquin+ from Nutravet. We've had our cats on Nutraquin+ for arthritis for a number of years (starting with Penny, then Roman & now Osiris) Lexie is on Nutramed for some issues with her liver but when I last spoke to the company on something, in passing they suggested that, instead of going down the NSAID for Roman as he seems to be having more problems with his legs, that we add Nutramed to his Nutraquin+ as the combined boswellia would still be within the max. dosage. They suggested that I discussed it with the vet. These products are only available from vets but it might be worth having a look at their website www.nutravet.co.uk/category/dogs & if interested asking your vet. On rereading this thread I see you mentioned pancreatitis issues interestingly Nutramed is suggested for that.

I had not remotely considered naturallyanimals, how silly am I!
Due to have another laser therapy (reminder I need to book it!) so will bring up what vet thinks then (depending if it is vet or nurse).
Thanks tonib for your suggestion, checked on website my vet is not stockist of the products. Though other vets in area do stock it.

I have been thinking of starting Riley on joint supplements - he’s 7 and I know it’s a big issue with the RC breed in their very senior years - although he doesn’t have any issues at the moment only being a coach potato 😂 So he is 5 days in to having his yumove supplements and the difference when out walking his unbelievable- he has certainly got a spring in his step - I could do with some myself 😂

Following this with interest also as Dotty has just recently been diagnosed with arthritis in both her shoulders, she will be ten in July. She already gets yumove and salmon oil daily to help with her nail condition. She had a trial of loxicom for a week and I think it helped though wasn’t really sure if I was over analysing everything also. Vet said if she was to stay on loxicom she’d need regular blood checks, and also think I’d get a prescription to buy it online as from what I see my vets charge five times more than online.
Thats great Riley is showing a big improvement already!

When Beau done his first cruciate he was put on Arthiaid and has been on it ever since as the vet predicted that the leg may become arthritic lost count how many years now as he did his other one too , hes 13 this year and still quite active. I tried yumove but getting them into him was a hassle , the liquid is far easier . Hope Dotty and Riley are ok x caz2golden hows Gypsy doing now

So dunno what to do for the best, Dotty is due to go this Thursday for blood tests. Had her at the beach one day last week, first time in about three months, and I saw such a difference in her running, speed etc, the day after she was so stiff and I felt so bad for her. Got her another bottle of loxicom which will last about ten days, hence why she’s due the blood tests on Thursday as they won’t give anymore without her having them. My plan was that if she was then gonna be on them for life I’d get a prescription as far cheaper to buy online, I hadn’t even considered cost of blood tests and ongoing, and potential side effects ongoing. She’s already had yumove for years which obviously hasn’t helped enough. I don’t know if worth trying arthriaid which scallywag mentions or just go straight for loxicom? Does anyone have any experience or words of wisdom for their pets whom have been on loxicom for a long time? Just hate seeing her stiff and in pain, still think of her as a wee puppy and invincible! Thanks in advance, you guys are the best 😀😘

I can only say what Beau is like, its common knowledge ? ( that's what the vet told me ) that after having cruciate operations he would be prone to arthritis. He did both his , he still sprints around the garden , when he sees a cat but all jokes aside ( its his eye sight and hearing that's the problem ) he will still run , but not see the ball. We have 3/4 acre back garden and he runs about it like mad. Trouble is he's knocking on 13 , I like to think that what the vet put him on after his first cruciate op has kept him supple. I wont take the chance and stop it now , a 500ml bottle last him 5 months , 2 pumps every morning on his food. I dread to think how stiff he could have been these past years but …. what works for one may not work for another like everything in life. Good luck with what you decide for Dotty McCuddles HUGS to you both x
