Took Skip to the vets last week,he's 14 now, and still very healthy, with pretty good eyesight, hearing and mobility.I have only in recent months started him on YUMOVE for elderly dogs, as one of his back legs is a bit weaker sometimes, probably through belting up the garden steps to chase away cats.He has a few lumps the vets not concerned with, and started coughing after drinking a couple of years ago due to slackened throat muscles. Last week there was a bit of blood on the kitchen floor and thought prob a cut pad,but found nothing. Then more blood the next day, realised it was coming from his mouth. His lovely new vet gave him anti biotics, and the bleeding has stopped.Vet is hoping it is an infection and needs to lose some teeth, but prepared us for possibility of a tumour. So fingers crossed for tomorrows visit to the vets.(He may need an Xray to see whats going on). We have to be so grateful he has never had an illness in the 13yrs we have had him,and is still happy and mobile. We meet so many dogs who developed arthritis quite early, and some are only just able to walk and are deaf or almost blind. We did'nt even think of him aging until he started losing so many doggy pals

Sorry to hear you have some possible health issues creeping in with Skip. He sounds like he is doing really well for a 14yr old.
Mums dog is only 13 and her back legs look wobbly at times, Horners syndrome looks like it is back (on opposite eye to last time), she has a number of little lumps (vets not concerned).
Wishing you and Skip a good result at the vets tomorrow.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all your good wishes.Thank goodness the trip to the vets with Skip tonight was better than we could dared have hoped for.The antibiotics have worked, and all the horrible bruising has cleared up.A tooth has been killed so will change colour, but Skip won't be needing anymore treatment.Surprisingly the problem was caused by trauma, which we have pinned down to one night when Skip was straddled up the garden steps and had to be lifted off,so most likely bashed his mouth on them then, ouch! Skip thinks its brilliant, you go to see Jim,he feeds you lots of treats(to look into his mouth)and then you come home for your tea!Whats not to like about vets?

That's such a relief migsy. I'm so glad that Skip is ok. Jasper was at the vets for his Carprofen injection tonight, and he's loves going too, getting to meet all the doggies and get a fuss off Chris.

That's great cazypops,it's so nice when they are happy with their visits. All this is new to Skip,he used to freak out at his last vets,he was so terrified,so it was traumatic for us too.His new vet is wonderful,he has a fantastic reputation and is so calm, kind and patient.Even the atmosphere in the waiting room is relaxed and friendly, all of the dogs have wagging tails. My only regret is we didn't make the change long ago.
