Thanks zahada & sodapop. Today we had fish & chips for dinner. We always get an extra fish for the cats to share (we remove the batter), usually with some left over for the next day. It felt really odd only doing 3 portions especially as we had to make sure Penny's share was quite small pieces, she'd eat kibble but in the last year her wet food had to be mashed or pate style. If she had any human food then it had to be in very small pieces but she did love her fish & any meat bits she could grab (or get given) from my plate.

It's the little things that suddenly knock you back tonib, you think you are on an even keel, then something like this gives you a shove.

We've decided to plant a dwarf lilac, possibly a standard depending on choice of colour & flowering period. We liked the Bloomerang lilacs which are repeat flowering dwarfs but not sure about their spread in our garden & they are not so available. On Sunday we had a look around the very large garden & home centre not too far from us (some Merseyside/ west Manchester members will know it), they even have a pet products shop with its own pet cafe with a human & canine menu!!! We bought, as a gift to the others from Penny, a Nepeta "Six Hills Giant" to replace the one that didn't seem to appear last year, I think its been swamped by other plants. I've already taken some cuttings to help spread/preserve it! Assuming they grow that is!!! and for our Penny memorial a couple of Nepeta "Grannilocks" a lovely variegated catmint which we will plant at the base of the lilac (assuming we get the standard otherwise nearby). Mind you just read it is trailing so may put them in a couple of nice pots so they can benefit from height over which to trail. Something not too high & safe for cats to rub against! and a Pennyroyal plant which we will use to start a new herb pot to put somewhere she used to lie in the sun. A lovely flavour & a most suitable name

On this date 26th April 1999 there was a very special kitten born. Her name was Penny. She didnt have the greatest start in life but her luck turned around when Toni and Mark came to her rescue and became her new trusted owners.
So sad was the passing of our forum Penny that i felt it only right and fitting that we all remember Penny on what would have been her 17th birthday. She missed it only by a short spell and i thought it worthy of a greeting or two.
Remembering you Penny on your 17th milestone.
Run free lady.

Aww, thank you cia for such lovely words, the tears are streaming down my cheeks as I remember her birthday tomorrow, but I wouldn't have it otherwise. I told Mark what you'd said & he's going to post about his picture of where she is right now, I can just see it Thanks scallywag & phiney69Last Saturday, We got the dwarf lilac as a standard. Its the Bloomerang Pink Perfume, didn't think they did that as a standard but when checking our local Notcutts I found they had it in - what a piece of luck! Hopefully we'll be able to find just the right spot for Penny & the plants this coming weekend, although we still need to get a couple of pots for the Catnip.

I can picture Penny right now. She's standing, precariously balanced on the very top of the Pearly Gates, grumbling at St Peter as the gatekeeper tries to coax her down, and every so often wobbling slightly just to panic him further.

Penny's latest trick was to come through the banister rails from the stairs & stand on the top of the door from the kitchen into the hall, which opened against the stair wall. She had only started doing it this last few months, we've worked out that when we had the kitchen revamped last August we had the hob moved across the kitchen so it was now visible from the stairs & we think she liked the birds-eye view of our (& hopefully her) dinner being cooked as well as giving us heart failure as the door easily moved. Mark could reach her down but I could only hold the door steady & encourage her to go back through the railings to the stairs.
