Ok so long story short (and some of you have heard about this dog before,) our neighbour's dog is causing a real problem. Well, it's actually our neighbour, not her poor dog.
Max is a rescue springer spaniel. He was fine when she got him. He walked past Milo and Finn, a little sniff and off he went. She on the other hand was always nervous. He started to get worse. He bit our neighbour's puppy in the face with no warning at all. A while later he attacked Finn, full on pinning him to the ground, Finn crying and yelping. Thankfully no wounds. We wrote to her and asked her to please put him on the lead and/or muzzle him. She basically said no, she was taking him to a gamekeeper (great <-sarcasm) who was telling her to hit his face away from looking at other dogs. Predictably he got worse. He couldn't walk near dogs any more, he went berserk. Our neighbour saw her pin him down and yell at him when she walked by with her dog. Max's owner now carries a bamboo cane with her (it's not a walking stick.)
Ok, that's the history bit. There's an estate near us where people have to pay a membership fee and they can have access to it. A lot of people go with their dogs, our neighbour (with the puppy, who is now grown up,) and Max's owner included. Our friend neighbour was forwarded an email yesterday about a dog attack that took place there, with a description of "a smallish black and white dog" (the definition of what Max looks like,) with "an older lady," (description of Max's owner.) the lady in question warned the person walking their dog "careful, my dog isn't good with other dogs," and the person immediately walked the other way, but the black and white dog was on their dog and the poor thing ended up at the vet with wounds. The lady who sounds like Max's owner left them to it! She scarpered. Now, the owner's mum drove down the road to try and find her but she was gone, which suggests she lives near (we do live near the estate.)
You might have to re-read that. There's a lot of "shes" and this dog and that dog lol. But basically, I'm pretty sure that dog, who attacked another, is our neighbour's dog. He has nipped someone before, another neighbour of ours, when he attacked their dog. We're not sure whether we should report him. We've given her a pretty fair chance, but she obviously isn't going to be sorting him out or keeping him on lead any time soon, and we can't wait until he attacks someone else. It's so frustrating, knowing he's a really sensitive dog with someone who is totally doing all the wrong things with him and I don't want him to be punished but he is a danger at the moment and it feels like we can't just leave it. What would you guys do?
