When I first got Calypso I made the mistake of putting a litter tray in my bedroom thinking as she was only tiny she may lose her way to the other litters trays during the night. I later took it away - stupid me - big mistake - she then peed where the litter tray had been. I put it back and she peed either side of it. Being as it was a closed box I then got an open one and put it on one side and food bowl on the other. Bit of a pain but problem solved. Until today. She peed on the door mat! They have a total of 5 litter trays (being on the safe side after what happened before) and I had only just cleaned all of them out. I did have the door closed next to the mat (as there is a cupboard on the other side of it that I was sorting it out) and there is a tray in there and can only presume that is the reason why she went on the mat. But I couldn't understand why she didn't use one of the other trays. Anyway my point is have any of you had a cat that occasionally doesn't use the litter tray? I am just hoping that it won't happen again.

Hi Andrena - it appears as result of yourself moving the tray has kind of put her off balance - shes very clever in the sense of making her point that shes noticed something has changed in her world. I would try to resume normal duties in regards of it aint broken dont try to fix it lol and im sure if you keep a close eye on her for the coming weeks then hopefully the balance should resume. I had it once and became a little paranoid but that was because it was bedding - never happened again. Take care.

Thanks Cia. Yes, I think you are right. Calypso is very sensitive and I have noticed quite an intelligent girl and as you say she was probably making a point. I am just hoping that having made that point that it won't happen again.

Fingers crossed that Calypso was only making a point and won't do it again - you have more litter trays than me with my 7!

Just as Jenny said you have more trays than we do for 4 cats (we have 4 but they do go out).
It does sound like Cia got it right, fingers crossed. I wouldn't wish that sort of problem on anyone, you know how much trouble we've had with Lexie & Penny & in both cases it was stress related. Although just last week Penny pee'd on a towel but we'd recently been shown how to wrap up a cat in a towel to give them a pill. That was the towel we'd used when we'd tried that method - lets say deuce was the score of those matches!!!! But Penny's peeing was definitely a comment on the game.

Thank you Jenny and Toni. Yes, Toni I know how awful it has been for you - well at least I can only imagine as up until I have been lucky with all of my cats and not had this problem before and that's why I thought is it going to continue now that she has done it once. I am lucky that she peed on the doormat that has a plastic backing and I could get rid of it. Peeing on carpet in the bedroom was another matter and I vigorously cleaned it over and over again and even put down a plastic carpet runner which seems to have worked there. I have always had three litter trays but ended up with five after what happened with Calypso in the bedroom but it works so I am happy to leave well enough alone.

Currently we're using distilled vinegar or carpet spray as Penny is usually sick once a day (result of her illnesses) & won't take the anti-nausea/vomit tablets, apparently they're bitter. We won't be having any new carpets for a long time yet (I hope)

I have just looked at the reviews for Simple Solutions Stain & Odour Remover and although they are good no one actually says whether the cat stopped going in the area or continued!
