Shes very upset about this and the group she goes walking with, the woman who runs it, has requested , for the time being, that Max wear a muzzle ! I wouldn't think it was normal for him to attack other dogs, but it is common for some neutered dogs to suffer a loss of confidence. I can see why your sister feels upset about this. Is her dog actually attacking other dogs and meaning to do harm, or is it all noise? My boys are neutered and I've noticed that they are much more comfortable around females and other neutered males, than with entire males. Unless the entire males are very calm and unconfrontational.

He actually attacked another , had him by the scruff , they were both in the sea at the time , had to be seperated, sister was just rooted to the ground crying, the woman and her partner who run the walking group had to wade in waist deep and sort the dogs out. Shes a new owner only had him 8 weeks

Your poor sister will be feeling devastated scallywag, how awful.Had Max shown any slightest tendencies like that before it was neutered? I think a decent muzzle like a Baskerville is the best idea until the problem is solved, dogs can be given treats etc while wearing them.My male dogs before Skip weren't neutered,Sam the B.C.hated German Shepherds (after a number of attacks by one) and I wondered if neutering would help, but his vet gave him tablets first which didn't make any difference,so neutering wouldn't have worked for him.Skip was already done when we adopted him,but he isn't aggressive towards any dogs. A friends rescue dog started being aggressive but she didn't bother training her, just said she was 'naughty'grr, it almost killed an elderly dog by dragging it into the sea by it's nose!I am thankful I wasn't there to see it.Had it been Skip she attacked I'm sure I would have killed it.The dog wears a muzzle now thank goodness,I said she must never come anywhere near Skip if not wearing it.Such a shame,as she is lovely with us,all she needed was firm training,I and another friend tried our hardest to talk her into bringing the dog to obedience training.Friend said she wouldn't have another rescue dog!####

Theres no history available migsy all we know is his owner died and Max was there for 3 days with him. We were told he was 3 but now vet is saying hes only 18 months. It was a German Shepherd that the ultification happened with. But also there was an entire jack russel n the group and Max was also paying a lot of attention to him too. Shes hoping the next 4-8 weeks he will improve when the testosterone has left his body . Thanks for your imput

Sorry for the late reply. It isnβt normal for dogs to attack other dogs, if Max were my dog I would stop the group walking as he is obviously very uncomfortable around other dogs. Perhaps he always was? But as there is no history β difficult to know what he was like before castration. Wearing a muzzle will stop him from biting but will not alter his feelings, so he may still instigate a fight and cause upset in the group.
I think training is the way forward, and then careful re-introduction to nice dogs in controlled situations β a good trainer or behaviourist needed here. Also commitment from the owner.
Vets say that after castration the testosterone stays in the body for 6-8 weeks, but judging by the quick change in my friendβs dog (1-2 days after losing his jewels he lost his spark and became and has stayed fearful) it seems to depend on the dog.
Good luck, hope you can pass some of your knowledge to your sister - if she will listen

Just thought i'd add in that Milo was great with other dogs but after he was neutered attacked another dog, I mention this on the reactive dogs facebook page and it seemed pretty common as many people said they had witnessed the same thing, it could just be coincidence though.
I hope everything is okay with your sister and her dog x

Hoping things are going OK now scallywag. Your sister must have been devastated. I can imagine how terrifying it would be. Neutering isn't 100% guaranteed to stop the dog having confrontations with other dogs, even though some people say it does. People have given some good advice here already, and I hope the situation improves from now on.
