This is a question for other cat owners with nervous cats: do your nervous cats fret during the night and come to you and wake you up for reassurance? What's the likely cause for a nervous cat fretting during the night (nowadays Ebony rarely needs to seek reassurance during the day, it's mostly just at night that she gets anxious and insecure)

Perhaps Ebony doesn't like the dark. Has she ever had a bad experience at night such as been chased by another cat? None of my cats have ever got anxious at night. Kai Ruki is my really nervous cat, he is very jumpy at the least little sound but he calms down in the night.

I've not had any experience of a nervous cat so can't really help. lotsofcats idea is quite a good one.

We don't know what her experiences were before we adopted her, she was in a rescue and the only information the rescue had on her was she was picked up as a stray along with kittens. Ebony gets fretful if she can't find me or if she sees me going outside, she also can get fretful when I'm in bed and she wants reassurance but as I said not knowing her experiences it's difficult to know how to help her (and it's not like I can turn the sun back on for her), poor girl <3

If the dark is an issue maybe one of those nightlight plugs might help.

I've found leaving the stairlight on when it's dark helps, she doesn't need it at the moment though because once she's in bed she doesn't move unless I get out of bed (and I don't get out of bed until it's daylight at the moment)

That's good news about her settling overnight at the moment. It sounds as though the dark is an issue if it is for a longer period - so hence the shorter nights are fine but the winter ones aren't.

You could also try leaving a radio on low, our munchkin sometimes used to howl and cry at night, so we put a radio on low preferably on a chat channel and that seemed to help, think maybe it was too quiet
