Rosa is living up to her nickname "Piggy" and rolled in human poop (yup, in the exact spot I had a wee rant about on here before, Im an idiot) last Monday, and it took 3 days of trying everything I could think of (including migsy s tip of ketchup!) before the smell finally seemed to go away. This is the second time it's happened so I figure if it's going to be a regular occurrence then I need to develop a cleaning programme to get rid of the smell ASAP as it was a miserable three days for Rosa with all the washing and the fact that no one wanted her anywhere near them haha. So, please give me your best tips on how to get rid of the smell of human (or fox!) poo from a long haired dog. Particularly around her neck, face, ear and shoulder.

If my girl rolls in something smelly I use a no rinse dog shampoo. Seems to work.

If it's in the same spot each time, could you not just call her back to you and keep her on a lead until you have passed the offending area?
That or recognise when she is about to roll and call her over before she has the chance to.

Sorry to hear about that smilesbetter, you have my sympathy, yuk,it made my stomach do king size leaps!Human poo.aaaaargh!!!!I used to get that when Skip rolled in fox or badger poo,and the smothering in tomato ketchup before bathing worked like a charm,so I am really stumped over this.I hope and pray Skip doesn't ever do that,I don't think I could cope with that.Dirty devils, though if someone has taken suddenly ill what else can they do? If it's a regular thing though, the mind boggles!I have found myself keeping an even closer eye on Skip and Sam in the woods. The worst Sam did was 'hoover up'fresh horse poo in the woods, then honk it all up in the car on the way home,I'm glad I wasn't there,it made O.H. feel queazy for days.

Haha Roo it's not always the same place, there is also a park near here which seems to be a public toilet that we can't go to as she continuously tried to roll in it. If there is poo in a park, she will find it, and we live in the capital city of Germany with a lot of homeless people, drug addicts, alcoholics and hipsters haha. Not to say they all poop willy nilly or that it's only them (in the forest there is also a kindergarten that is completely outdoors, I'm pretty sure they bury their days toilets though) but in any case there is a lot of people here and there seems to be poops everywhere haha. If I catch Rosa sniffing something and seeing her doing the shoulder twitch she does as she considers rolling I can stop her, but in the forest or park she's often running around investigating stuff when it happens unfortunately haha. I have now identified "poo alley" in the forest though so hopefully can avoid that, but I know this isn't going to be the last time. Hahaha migsy Rosa has eaten cat poo before so I can sympathise with you on that one, her breath stank for ages after, urgh! Rosa loves poo! She even tries to roll in bird poo if we come across some in the street or park haha. Yesterday we were walking back through a supermarket car park and she did the shoulder twitch about to roll in some poo that was smeared into the ground from a tyre. No idea what it was from as she never rolls in dog poo (just sniffs it obsessively like a normal dog thankfully). I don't know if I to,d you all about her rolling in to at poo she'd pilfered from the cat litter tray the other week too, that was horrible. I had to reinforce the gate around the litter tray to keep her out haha. That went away after a good vinegaring though.

Alfie sounds as bad as Rosa haha, he will roll in any poo with the exception of human poo - he eats it! I really don't know which is the lesser of two evils! Thankfully he has never shown any interest in dog poo (other than sniffing) either but anything else is fair game haha No tips on cleaning really, I usually just give him extra shampoo and never have a problem with smells after - but I know you're not keen on shampoo!

You poor thing - what is it with dogs and rolling in poo? And as for eating it - dogs can be so disgusting - that's what Kobi did and it made him ill and cost us £79 at the vets. We still have to watch him like a hawk as he's always looking for something smelly to eat or roll in.

Haha I've tried shampoo guys but it didn't make the slightest bit of difference. The most effective thing was the ACV and the tomato juice but the smell was still there haha. Tried everything we could think of, the next step would have been shaving her haha but I think the smell was into her skin.
Does anyone know if coconut oil would be okay to put on a dogs coat? It's a really good antibacteria thingy apparently and I know dogs can eat it, plus some people use it in their hair as a hair oil. Putting some on and leaving it in for a bit might help. I suppose it's worth a try unless there's some reason why anyone thinks it wouldn't be okay to out on her coat.
Hopefully I won't have to try for a while haha!

I think you can use coconut oil on their skin so can't see why you couldn't use it on the coat?

Very interested when you say about kindergarten in the woods smilesbetter.Completely off topic, but I watched a very interesting t.v. prog comparing English and German life. The childrens kindergarten was in the woods,(so possibly toileting in there too). The Germans weren't impressed with the English man on job swap wasting time during work hours on his mobile phone and lazing around, and The German man was horrified when working in England how workers abused their employers time instead of getting on with their jobs.On a Sunday,if people made too much noise in their home,a man came round and told them it wasn't allowed to disturb and cause annoyance to neighbours.I wish I had recorded it as it was so interesting.(reminded me of how much more civilised people here used to be years ago with consideration for others etc).

Thanks alfiemummy I'll give it a try next time she does something stinky. migsy I have seen the same programme, he worked for a pencil company, right? I didn't see the German guy working in England though. Where they were is very different to Berlin, I think they were in Bavaria and it's very well known for being extremely conservative and having these rules like you can't make noise in your flat on Sunday's or evenings at all. My colleagues were actually quite disgusted that I would turn up and be ready for work exactly when my shift started. Turns out that it's completely normal and expected here for people to turn up early to count their till etc despite the fact that that work is actually unpaid. They were also annoyed when I said that it was unfair that we got paid up until the shop shut despite us Being there for at least 30 mins more counting the tills and shutting up the building. I mean if a customer was taking their time in the shop and stayed ten minutes after closing time, that's ten minutes where I would actually be unpaid despite working, plus all the stuff that happens after the shop shuts. Thankfully they have now actually slightly changed this and we are now paid till quarter of an hour after the shop shuts, we are still there longer though. The forest kindergartens are fantastic, if I ever have a kid I'd want them to go to one. I mean I wouldn't wanna have a kid here, but there are now plenty forest kindergartens in the UK too including one not far from where my parents live that looks really good and one near where I'd like to move to that looks great. I think you can still watch that programme on the BBC Iplayer, or the itv or channel 4 one, can't remember which it is on but I'd seen it again recently. Probably just type "Germany" into their search box and you'd find it

I saw that program too. Very interesting. I wonder what would happen if an UK employer tried to stop his employees using mobiles whilst they are supposed to be working. Would they go on strike claiming their liberties were being curtailed?
I know all of my colleagues have their mobiles in their pockets and will respond to them. Not only that, some bring their chargers to work and use somebody else's electricity. Which, I think is a damn cheek to say the least.

Ooh I think I will try that smilesbetter, thank you.I'ts ages ago since I watched it and loved it.It's asking a bit much to expect people to turn up early and go home later without extra pay at your work place, that's not fair play at all.I don't like people who are always late.My O.H. is the sort who makes it by the skin of his teeth, and it drives me nuts as I am always ready in good time,I hate hanging around for people. ha ha zahada,Yes it would probably infringe their human rights.I think some people in the workplace now would compare it to slave labour.

Years ago I used to work as a YTS in a supermarket and it was a rule that we MUST be in 10 minutes before the start of our shift. We didn't start until our shift started and most folks would have a cuppa before going onto the shop floor.
In my current job we aren't allowed to take our till off until our shift is ended so you are often in for another 10/15 minutes, unpaid, cashing it up. I wouldn't mind if the boss was ok but, well, you all know what a right witch she is In fact, I'm the ONLY person in our shop without a fancy all-singing-'n'-dancing mobile phone. The others can all sit there watching videos on YouTube or go onto Facebook even when the boss is in and she never says a peep....but if I am standing still for even a moment she tells me to fill the fridge/tidy the cards/brush the floor etc etc I have now perfected the art of doing a job EXTREMELY slowly whilst she is in so she cannot whinge I'm just waiting for her to say something and I'll point out the fact that the others all do bu**er all except play on the phones when there's no customers in the shop so why should I run around like a headless chicken when I get no thanks for it!
