OK still trying to understand how the Board worked
1. Am I assuming you want it to be PRIVATE and away from Public View ?
2. Will people just make their own threads for other's to read and comment on, just like we are doing right now ?
3. What else was great about it please, photo's will never be able to be an invitation only basis, its a Members ( Private) area in general
ATTACHMENTS REMOVED FOR NOW

My laptap OR the forum wont let me click on them to make them bigger but I will type this and see if it helps. You could click on the button for either the forum or the community. In the community you could post in a time line (like on Twitter). I don't know about other peoples settings but I had it so you had to be signed in to read my post in the community but had to be a friend to see my photos. It looked more like a timeline than a forum. It just had people posts/comments going from bottom to top and the time/date they were posted. E.g:- scallywag:- Tue 30th April 11:30 Just back from a walk. - - - - caz:- Tue 30th April 10:30 What a lovely day - - - - gladys:- Tue 30th April 09:30 Morning Peeps People could also reply to peoples posts. Does that help??

It looks like that would partially solve the privacy issue scallywag & in principle I suppose the photography category could be moved there, if that it what was required. Not sure you'd land up with the exact same posting scenario that was on the old forum though - the basics would be like the chit-chat thread but I don't know of anyway to reply to an individual post rather than the thread on this forum, so that facility would be missing other than by creating separate threads. Again it would only be possible to limit the privacy to members not to friends as far as I understand it. If, however, people started using the private area for posting non-private items (not just pictures) would that stop people finding something that looks interesting & joining the forum. It's sometimes difficult to remember /bother to move to the appropriate category/board to create different threads, especially if it is more of the chit-chat style. It's a double-edged sword Hope that hasn't confused anyone (as usual) On balance I think it looks like there's possibly a need for a members only area to help those who value a degree of privacy, but it shouldn't be used to replace the existing open forum.

Toni the photography and the competition threads don't need to be moved, all James has to do is make those 2 Boards as members only able to view !! I have PM'd first thing this morning and asked if we can have that done as to be honest I too don't like the fact that non members can view EVERYTHING !!, Surely we must be allowed to have some form of privacy from non members ?
If I am reading Glady's post correctly seems they want a private chat thread away from public view, which someone can actually comment on a post if required ? but then that is surely duplicating the chit chat thread ? still a little confused LOL Sorry

Sorry I wan't suggesting that the photo & comp threads need to be moved - I was meaning that as photos are a concern for some on privacy then moving the photo threads to a private board might be an answer. I think Gladys was describing what the community also consisted of, i.e. not just photos. Also that the people could comment on individual posts so there was a tree like structure. It also had a bit of the feel of the activity tab on a members profile. So if someone loaded a new avatar or a status was updated that was logged & a comment could be posted about it underneath. As you say a degree of it is the chit-chat thread but in a controlled environment. I don't know if that part of the community is required or not I'm just describing it.

Just tested as a sub board, made it a bit like a shout board but sadly you have to have a title, then type your message same as normal. It can be reversed, bottom to top, but if someone replys to say the first post now sitting at the bottom of the page, that post then gets moved back to the top of the list LOL.
Not sure thats whats wanted, think I may give up LOL

I love this idea. Although it doesn't take much for someone to just sign up and become a member. They should have to earn their access into these community boards.
e.g. Members are only allowed into this area once they have reached 100 posts.
This way they have contributed to the main forum and have hopefully become a 'valued' member of the community.

That can be done, thats if the board ever gets tried out, if it sounds the right thing thats needed but nothing to stop someone just keep agreeing saying Hi, then agreeing again all these posts soon get your count up

Clearly!! Thing is, new members don't have to know it's there! It will just appear for them once they reach the mark, whether it be 100 posts or 500 posts. It'd be nice to perhaps have the option for admin to be able to ban members from using the 'VIP' section too.

scallywag, I'm sorry but you've misunderstood what I meant about the Community Page. It would not hold threads - it wouldn't be a forum. I wonder if any old members agree, but it was a bit like a dog version of Facebook? There were groups to join, friends to befriend, and you could write statuses at random and share videos, photos. It also showed who was online on that page also. It should be public completely, unlike the other one... Great idea for a VIP section, and new members should only be able to use once they have made a minimum of 500 to 1000 posts on the forum; GREAT IDEA PF!! This also encourages newbies to use the forum and not let the Community Page take over the forum which is our main section. I hope this gets tried out, the old one seas really nice!

If I replied to your post it would show up between your two posts (so under the one I'm replying to but over your older post). If that makes sense. The time line would also tell you if you uploaded a new photo in your album or if you changed you avatar. I love this idea.
