Yep, that's the way we used to give Hattie hers when she first came home to us - Neil would cuddle her on her back in his arms (like a baby) and tip her back and I would just quickly pop it down her throat In the past my two boys, Thomas & George, were, like Roman, absolute gentlemen and would take their medication with no fight at all......but the girls!!! I think there may be a reason why we always seem to end up with female cats - they're stroppy divas who think nothing of beating us humans up so end up in rescue more!!! Tho' I must admit Lily and Chilli aren't TOO bad ~ for now!

Well tried it tonight. Mark cradled her, she was fine. As soon as I got near her mouth she was squirming & twisting, snarling etc. even sliding down in Mark's arms. She managed to almost hide her mouth under Mark's arms. Thought I'd got the tablet in, but found it on Mark! Tried again later with me wearing a though fabric coat with her on my lap & Mark wrapping a towel round her - couldn't really get her mouth fully open with out her twisting her head, squirming so much she was in danger of falling off my lap. Twice or three times I had the tablet in her mouth but it was spat out, just can't get mouth open enough! We're going for the butter paws next! The trouble is she has a very small head (I'd put it at 1/2 the size of Roman's) & I suspect has had a lot of teeth trouble in the past (before we got her) as she doesn't have to many so I think she is very wary of her mouth being handled. edit: Managed to get the butter & crushed tablet on her paw, hopefully enough of the tablet as although I mixed it with a spoon still had to make sure it was all cleaned off the saucer & spoon & it was getting almost melted. had to put it back in the fridge for a bit but my fingers felt gritty so not all the tablet was in the butter But she did let me put it on a paw & did lick it off. Tried the Metacam that way as well, doesn't mix so well with butter as its a liquid but I managed & got it on her paw although this time she was grumbling & moving her paw away. Still succeeded & she's was licking it away. Will try again with it in the morning tablets

Glad it's working for now. It's just difficult getting a happy medium, (soft enough to squish on her paws but not melted that it's runny) At least if she starts eating a bit more you'll know she's getting enough of the meds.

Thanks cazypops, she's eating reasonably with a little encouragement but I think that's needed as she really wants some kibble or other food rather than just the fish. I found her today in Lexie's room on a cat bed there , most unusual but when I talked to her she moved to Lexie's feeder & tried to open it (with no success) If you remember we've got the microchip feeders & both Lexie & Penny are in full use so only they can open their own feeder (still got to get Roman through all the training modes, we seem to have a slight problem there & haven't room to put a 2nd one out of Penny's reach so haven't started Osiris. She really wanted the kibble & possibly the moist that was in there. I've got to book her appointment for Friday so will ask if she can come off the bland food before then.

Aw, it must make you feel cruel when Penny is trying to get at Lexie's 'tasty' food. It's like when we have to starve a cat the night before they go to the vet for an operation, the poor cat is looking at you and trying to tell you they haven't had their food.

lotsofcats, Luckily our vets say no food from 10 pm so they get their tea & then at 10 pm everyone has their food removed. If we get everyone on these feeders then we won't even have to remove all the food - or maybe that's too cruel for the one without. cazypops, The butter was a real success this morning. Headed towards Penny & before I could put it on her paw she took the butter (with crushed tablets) from my fingers & ate it straight down. Hope it works tonight. Had a word with the vets today & she's to continue with the bland diet until he's seen her on Friday (9:25 a.m.) he won't be happy with this

I'm sure he won't mind a tiny bit of butter if it's getting the job done. And Penny probably thinks she's getting a treat.

Have you tried salmon sticks? I buy different sticks like the webbox ones and put our cats tablets in those. I also use tuna aswell to mask the smell of the tablet. They think its tuna and by the time they realise its not tuna the tablet is gone

Thanks pixiepops, sadly we've tried the Lick-i-lix but Penny's gone off that, she doesn't like the Webbox sticks. Also at the moment not sure about using tuna and she can be funny about that as well! A cat that doesn't much like chicken or tuna!! But butter is working just using the absolute minimum amount I can get away with to mix the crushed tablets in.

Famous last words - Penny's gone off butter but she is still licking it off her paws just unhappy about me putting it on her paws & will void me if she thinks that's going to happen! I think she's cottoned on to the meds!!!! Oh well a couple of other tricks up my sleeve yet. Bought a few supplement pastes (malt & pro-biotic) that zooplus had as sample size & on offer when I was ordering other things from them. they can 2 days ago so will see if she'll accept the malt paste first & if so (& its suitable consistency) will try the tablets in that. Have to see how much longer she's going to be on tablets on Friday but she still needs to have her Metacam even after then so may need other means to give it to her as I think she was getting very wise to the treats in ham before the tablets!

When I'm giving Ebony or Tigger a tablet, they get a Dreamies treat straight after they've swallowed the tablet
