Hi my name is Gail and I'm new on here . Can anyone suggest any help please. My 6 year old tabby has a bald tummy from " over grooming " She , Libby has had some blood taken for allergy tests today. The vet doesn't seem to think we will get a definitive diagnosis . Any suggestions as to anything I could try to help her would be gratefully received . Ps I have sent for Feliway diffuser today. Thanks from Gail and Libby

ah bless her, hope the feliway diffuser helps, do you no if anything had happened recently? new visitors etc as any small changes can upset a cat, I no my cat gets upset if we have visitors, she dislkes my mum and can be upset and nervous for a couple of days after, just a thought

Welcome to the forum gailkane. Poor Libby I hope you can find the solution for her over-grooming. Feliway is a good idea, if that doesn't seem to relax Libby there is another plug-in/spray called Pet Remedy which seems to work with some cats better - we use both around the house to help keep the peace between our 4 cats & for travelling for one of them. I must admit if its not stress then allergies does sound a good suggestion. If she's been to the vet I'm assuming he has checked for fleas as their biting could cause enough irritation to get this reaction. or she could even be allergic to them.

Poor Libby - I think the Feliway diffuser will help. One of my cats, Kai Ruki, often over grooms. He is a very nervous cat and the least little change will start him off over grooming, so I do sympathise with you. Libby could be the same as my cat and be allergic to flea bites too. Does she scratch a lot as well as over-grooming?

Hi thank you for getting back to me. There hasn't been any changes to Libby's routine . She doesn't seem overly nervous , she stretches out as far as she can when she's sleeping and even sleeps on her back ! The vet has put her on Hills ZD allergen .... She is going to find it very boring ( no dreamies or fresh chicken ) Obviously worth it if it does the trick , but try explaining that to a cat. The Feliway proved interesting , she walked straight up to it the second I plugged it in but hasn't shown any interest in it since . Her bed is on the radiator next to where I have plugged it in , so we shall see , but so far she's continuing to make her bald tummy sore by licking it. I just wondered if anyone else on here could suggest anything else I could try Thank you again Gail

gailkane, Hopefully the Hills ZD will help especially as nothing seems to have changed with Libby's routine. I assume she is an indoor only cat but wonder if she is seeing something from the window, a new cat on the block approaching or peering in perhaps?

My Kai Ruki, even though he is a nervous cat, also sleeps on his back with his legs outstretched. Another thing I have recently bought for him is Anicura gel for cats - someone on this forum recommended it. It is suitable for cats that itch and scratch and are scabby!! (that's my 2 Maine Coons) and it is made from natural ingredients and helps to calm and sooth their skin. My cats don't mind me putting it on them as it doesn't smell at all. It costs £9.99 for 75ml but worth it if it works! I bought mine off eBay.
