Just wanted to introduce myself. I really enjoy reading forums etc and I cannot find a decent dog forum. I'm registered on many however I tend to find that they don't suit my needs, hopefully here is different. Anyway we have an 8 year old black lab cross and we rescued her from the RSPCA 4 years ago now. She is gorgess and we love her to death. Anyway I look forward to speaking to some of you soon

Welcome to the forum brummiedog ! Hope you like ours haha, we are definitely the best dog forum out there (unless you like those dog forums where you make profiles for your dog and talk from the dogs point of view).

Welcome to the forum - as you can see this is not just a dog forum, it's for all pets but it's mainly dogs and cats. We are a friendly lot on this forum. Would love to see a photo of your dog and hear more about her.
As you can see I have 7 cats and 2 dogs.

Hi Thanks for the kind welcome. Well my dog's name is Oreo (she was called Lisa but we opted to change it). She is a black lab cross (we think with Staffie or maybe some lurcher in there as well but the rescue did not know her history unfortunatley). She suffers with bad allergies and the insurance have probably paid out nearly £3k in 4 years for various tests, meds and things without sucess (thank goodness for insurance). She has had two opperations in the last 6 months to remove lumps which have turned out to be cancer so she has been through it a little since we've had her. Her allergies are semi under control with a careful diet and regular baths. We wouldn't change her for the world. We do have two budgies and a guinea pig (we lost our other guinea pig last year). Here is a picutre of Oreo.

Oh she's a love. Poor thing she really has been through the mill hasn't she. I hope she's now through the worse with the cancer and it doesn't return again. One of our other members orpheous87 has a dog with allergies too. My Mum always insisted on having budgies when I was growing up. I liked having them, but hated cleaning the cage.

One of our other members @orphious has a dog with allergies too. My Mum always insisted on having budgies when I was growing up. I liked having them, but hated cleaning the cage. The vet has put her issues down to allergies. Although the tests didn't show what she is likely to be allergic too. I am not convinced it is allergies. She chews her back paw and I thought it could be a problem with pain in her hips or legs but she's had many many checks and the vets insist it's allergies and it's one of those situations where It has to be managed. If we don't watch her she will sit there and pull her hair out from around her nails and inbetween her paw on her back foot. We have had the budgies for about 5 years and they're doing really well (especially as one had a broker wing and can no longer fly correctly). I have been thinking that the budgies (or their danders) could be causing the allergies to Oreo but I can't bring myself to move the birds away. Cleaning them is ok, a lot easier than a guinea pig. Oreo has been through a lot and I am hoping that her older years are relaxing for her with little problems as she deserves to be spoiled after being passed around in rescue all her young adult life.

Hi and welcome to the Forum, Oreo is gorgeous. Looking forward to chatting some more, as said we are a friendly bunch, both cat and dog forum members interact a great deal, we are like a little community of friends now. There is a General Board to where we moan and groan, laugh and cry, chit chat about this and that, and love posting photo's of our pets. Hope you enjoy it here

Welcome to the forum I hope you enjoy it, I do! We are all a friendly bunch. I am owned by three dogs, 2 rescue ex-breeding bitches, Misty (Norwegian Elkhound) and Jools (Bull Terrier) both are around 9 years of age. I am also a new and first time owner of a 9week old Siberian Husky, Remus! I also own two house rabbits, who are more demanding than the dogs!

Welcome to the forum! Oreo is lovely! Sorry to hear that she likely has allergies though. Has your vet not offered you any allergy tests to determine exactly what she's allergic to? Both of my dogs have various allergies - both are allergic to gluten and rice and they each have an allergy to certain meat. I had a hair analysis done which gave a full breakdown of everything they're allergic to, including environmental allergies. This was much cheaper than having allergy tests done at the vets, and quicker than an elimination diet! I can definitely recommend having one of those done if you want to find out what she's allergic to. Finding out will enable you to cut those things out of her diet/environment and hopefully that would stop her chewing at her feet.
