Re training classes - good ones are likely to have waiting lists so I would find one now and get her signed up. Puppy socialisation and training classes that I've been to limit number of puppies to six per class, under the age of 18 weeks at the start of the course and the puppies only needed to have the first vaccinations.
And they certainly were worth attending - not to be confused with 'free for all' puppy parties run at some veterinary practices.

We had Jasper micro-chipped on his second vax, He hardly felt a thing, and we had peace of mind that he'd been done. I was recommended giving Jasper a raw carrot when he was teething. I can't recommend any toys, as nearly everyone will tell you, Jasper destroys all toys, and I mean all. The only thing he hasn't been able to rip to bits is his Kong Extreme.

Great - I'm glad to hear that, I thought the vet would have mentioned it if the micro chipping was painful enough to warrant sedation. I will keep my appointment (and my money! yay!)
I'll try a carrot - Thanks cazypops, you're a star!
Anyone use Legal and General for pet insurance? The general consensus at work is to go with MoreThan - but L&G have a good deal on at the moment. Get so confused with all the different levels of cover!

Sorry me neither, I never have and never will get insurance, but what I do do is put away money each week for Beaus vets costs. We have had him 6 years now and up till September of last year we have been very fortunate with his health, then he snapped his cruciate ligament costing us £1300 but... we had more than double that in his pot, if we had been paying insurance then it would have been dead money. On the other side of the coin, if he caused a RTA then we could be sued, then what ? but he's also not off lead near roads ( or anywhere else , he goes too deaf around people so his recall is non existent ( who's calling me ? I don't care I like these people better LOL

I have insurance for my two girls, but one is with Healthy Pets and the other with Debenhams, so not sure I'm much help! I took out the insurance policies without really knowing much about what the best type of policy is. As far as I'm aware, when you're looking for a policy, you need to look for one that has lifetime cover for each new condition rather than cover up to a certain amount. However, even the lifetime policies usually cover up to a certain amount each year, but that limit renews when you renew the insurance. Legal & General, assuming I'm looking at the same deal you are, only cover each condition up to a cost of £2000 per insurance year whereas MoreThan cover up to £12000. So I guess it really is up to you to evaluate everything and make the decision based on your circumstances. Of course, you can't plan for every eventuality. Good luck deciding on an insurer! On another note, if you're still having trouble with Marnie eating Pud's food, you could put a baby gate in the doorway of the room where Pud's food is. She'll be able to get through/over it, but Marnie won't.

Re insurance - been there, done it, got done! The only insurance I would now have is Petplan! Lifetime cover £12000 per annum if you can. They are the only company that provides only pet insurance. Unlike some companies that provide all sorts and when the pet insurance sector is no longer viable they hive it off. Leaving pets with on going conditions uninsurable.
Lots of companies increase premiums when a claim is made, and not small increases. Petplan doesn't. Lots of companies say their cover is for life, but in truth it's limited to a sum of money and when that runs out that's it. Petplan top up the cover every year at renewal to the amount agreed under your policy - £4000,£7000 or £12000. With Petplan there is no limit per condition. So if your cover is £4000 per year and your pet's investigations and treatments for say skin conditions cost £4000 a year, Petplan will pay. Other companies have limits per condition, so if your pet starts suffering from a skin condition and investigation and trial treatments cost £4000 per year, your insurance might only pay £1000 leaving you to find the rest. Pet insurance is one of the most difficult things to understand until you make a claim. Then you will know exactly how much money you have given away to the insurance company and won't get anything for it.
Another thing -choose your insurer carefully as changing companies could leave you uninsurable for conditions that your pet received a treatment for - regardless of whether a claim was submitted.
Pet insurance is a minefield and many people get stung.

Sorry, no insurance here! We are naughty too! Had Alfie over 6 years and the most I have ever spent (so far - touch wood!) is £150 for a grass seed in his ear. We don't put money aside especially for him, but my parents have savings they would be willing to use.

Hello Again! Hope we are all well Marnie and Pud are coming along nicely, Pud is still unsure - but more confident moving around the house. Marnie is growing far too fast! Thoroughly enjoys the beach and is doing very well on all accounts apart from biting! We are working on it and make slow but definite progress. Just got a quick question on opinions of food for Marnie - she started on a scrambled egg diet (5-7wks) because she had a terrible upset stomach and worms, then onto Natures Diet Rice, chicken and carrot pup food + egg on a morning for a treat. She is now 15 weeks and, despite the vet saying she seems fine, I have a niggling feeling she is a little underweight. I've been advised she should go onto a complete dry food, and I've been recommended Chappie - so I've been mixing 100g dry with a bit of wet and a bit of hot water to loosen the biscuits a touch (they're massive!). She's just not eating quite so well. I realise this is an important growing time for her, any thoughts? Thanks, H

marniepudnme glad to hear the 2 are getting better together. As to the food for Marnie, I would suggest creating a new thread for this question in the Dog section of the forum so that you can catch as many dog owners as possible for advice Try following this link to dog health & nutrition board yourpetforums.co.uk/board/6/health-nutrition ad create a thread there.
