Hi guys, just an update..
Zizou is continuing to make progress, he comes downstairs a lot more and is even more inclined to do so when we have visitors here! Our new born nephews don't even put him off!
He still spends most of his time in the bedroom but is a lot more curious, looking around other rooms which are out of bounds due to renovation.
He has been sick twice, about two weeks apart and I'm struggling to pin point why. He is fed on Iams dry food and water, with the occasional whiskers cat milk which he does well on. I know previously his diet was Tescos own wet food and biscuits but he has been with us a month now on this food. What do you suggest? Try him on a different brand of dry? Thanks all.

Glad to hear Zizou is feeling more confident around the house. Silly question mrsteriyaki but was there any hair (or darkish lump) in the vomit? Due to the barbs in their tongues, cats often swallow hair as part of their grooming. It doesn't always pass through the system & they will often vomit up a lump of hair - can be a cigar shape or a ball or just a clump. Apologies if you knew this already & had discounted it. OF o cat.ur 4 cats, Penny regularly has them (it's a surprise if she goes more than 2 weeks between them & it's often more frequent!), Roman sometimes sounds like he's going to have one but rarely does, don't think I've seen Osiris or Lexie have one so it varies from cat to cat.

Hello! Wouldn't worry about him being a slow settler, when I adopted my cat Carlotta she took aaaages to get settled. She spent the whole first week behind the couch, and I'd sit next to the couch on my iPad or whatever so she could come sniff me and things in her own time. She eventually got used to coming out around me but took ages with my man. I'd say it was a good few months before she was properly settled, and even then it took her about a year to get properly confident around the flat (adopting a second cat can't have helped speed the process after about six months haha). Don't worry hahaa, he'll get there. He just needs to get used to your routine and things, and slowly learn all the hideouts and escape routes in each room. Not a fan of Iams dry food, or any dry food for that matter. Also I think cats shouldn't get milk, as they aren't able to handle lactose. However before blaming food, I'd look at what type of vomit it was. As tonib points out, if there is hair in it it can be a hairball. If there is no food in it, and no hair, more like a clear or yellowy liquid, it's most likely stomach acid. When a cat thinks it is going to eat soon, it starts to create more stomach acid in order to help properly digest the food. If the cat then doesn't get food, it will have to vomit up some of the excess stomach acid. Believe me, I know. I'm not allowed to sleep past 7:30 thanks to Carlotta and her stomach acid vomiting haha.

Yesterday the vomit was just a small amount of food. But previously it was in a small puddle and looked more like a funny looking stool to me. Kind of a white colour.. couldn't tell if it was hair.
Could it be a reaction to a 'back of the neck' flea or worming treatment?
Other wise he seems fine and a happy cat.

That sounds like a hair ball to me. They are gross haha! Thankfully my cats rarely have them, but some cats have them frequently. Ugh, I can even remember the horrible noise they make which they seem to save just for hair ball vomits haha, sounds like they're choking sometimes!

From the description mrsteriyaki it sounds just like one of our Flirtys fur ball, he has them on a regular basis. He's a proper sickly cat. I wouldn't worry if he's fine and happy as long as he doesn't start to lose weight.

Thank you, and no he isn't losing weight, still eating and drinking as normal. I'm trying him on Purina 'sensitive' for a bit and cutting out Whiskas cat milk.
He had his first ever vaccination yesterday which he didn't react well to, began walking very slow and acting subdued. The vets asked to see him right away so we took him in. Sounds like the shoulder area had reacted and was in pain so after a pain killer we returned home and he returned back to normal within a few hours. Spent most of the night asleep on us!
Glad all is okay now, fingers crossed he won't react in three weeks for his last vac. Picking up some Pet Remedy today for downstairs. Thank you for all your advice!

Good luck with the new diet & Pet Remedy mrsteriyaki do the trick for Zizou. Poor chap having a painful reaction to the vaccination but hopefully it will soon clear & the vets might take even more care for the 2nd one in 3 weeks. Let us know how it goes.

He's been sick again just now - sorry for the gross photo! I can't tell if it's related to the vacs he had yesterday, as he has been sick twice before..

And again.. He cant keep his food down now.
He still has an appetite, asking me for food this morning with his bowl of biscuits right in front of him. Not really sure what he wants? I guess a call to the vets is in order.. I wonder if it's a stomach reaction to the jabs on Monday?
