Which flea spot on does lung and heart worm as well as flea and tick? I'm sure I saw one and you would just need to use a wormer every 6 months for the one not covered??? Oh I can't remember which it is???

The only flea treatment that does the lung & heart worm is Advocate (as far as I can trace) but it doesn't seem to cover ticks. Frontline covered ticks but not the worm & ear mites etc that Advocate does.
Excuse my ignorance but is worming for dogs only every 6 months, our wormers for cats is 3 monthly, we use Profender or Drontal.

tonib Thanks for that. Yeah it was Advocate. Must have been wishful thinking on the tick front?!? If you use something like Advocate that treats lots of different worms then they recommend that you only have to treat every 6 months for the one it doesn't treat. Which is tapeworm. : Is there just a tick treatment out there? Or a tick and wormer?? Edit:- Or a separate treatment for both lung & heart worm??

We need Gypsy I think? My understanding is Advocate is the only product that when used at the 1 month interval treats lungworm. Products like panacur and milbimax are so called 'will help in the aid of prevention' of the problem! I guess this means they may not be as reliable! I know Milbimax says 'reduction of level of infection' so does not claim to cure it. Milbimax covers roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and tapeworms, reduction of infection of lungworms and the prevention of heartworm (http://www.ah.novartis.com/products/en/milbemax_cat.shtml) My understanding is that Panacur is a good one to use, only problem is my vet does not sell it so I don't know how much to buy to cover my two dogs who weight about 25kg and 24kg! I know I can get it online.(http://www.msd-animal-health.co.uk/Species_Pages/Dog/Dog_Wormers.aspx) As I put on earlier post Advocate is no good for me as my mutts get wet. I never has been a big fan of spot on's. There are 4 types of lungworm. Angiostrongylus vasorum Oslerus osleri Filaroides hirthi Crenosoma vulpis My understanding is that no one product claims to cover all of the above however by searching about I have found a persons blog which indicates that the chemical Fenbendazole covers three of the four.

Frontline is a flea & tick treatment but not worms of any variety. As I'm dealing with cats & you may have seen the comedy descriptions of giving a cat a pill (I'll post one later in the cat section) then you might appreciate why a spot-on is a preferred option. Luckily we have 2 cats who will take a pill relatively easily, thank goodness as one of them is the one who has had to have the most pills due to needing antibiotics as result of injuries probably caused in arguing with other local cats!! The other 2 are a nightmare. I hadn't heard about an issue with Advocate & water until this thread so had a look at the manufacuter's website & found this which may be of interest. Bayer Animal HealthAlso found that Pancur is made by MSD Animal Health who also make Actival which was mentioned earlier & comes as a flea or a flea & tick versions. Might be worth a look at their website MSD Animal Health Interestingly Pancur is based on fenbendazole but only lists 2 out of the 4 you mentioned Caz. This is definitely an interesting cross pet conversation

This is starting to make my head hurt?!? I really did think I had come to the right conclusion and was going to swap from Stronghold to Advocate, now I'm not so sure?? What I don't understand is why Stronghold covers heartworm but not lungworm?? Thanks caz2golden I will have a look at some of them in more detail.
